I won £1,200 last season from a daft £20 bet on Leicester to win the title when they'd won a few of their opening games around September/October. I had a big one-off pay day come in, and I was enjoying watching their story unfold on't Gogglebox every Saturday so just went with it. Made Match of the Day far more exciting when I'd hidden the results from myself all day. Even cashed out early out of fear, so could have had more. Anyway, most of the winnings were taken out and used in sensible(!) ways, but I had £100 left in my bookies wallet and wanted to put it on Barnsley with all the optimism flowing through the club at the minute. Asked them for a custom bet - got Tarn to achieve a top 10 finish in the Premier League within 5 seasons at 28/1. What do you think to 28/1 - fair, optimistic or pessimistic?
Not great at all - especially with our best player and our best goal scorer out of contract end of the season; and I think Watkins only has until the end of the season? Longer contracts maybe. But I don't think it's a good price whatsoever
That's pathetic. These companies are happy to take every penny from some people. I get that they have to operate as a business to make money, but when you can destroy somebody's life and risk nothing yourself you're just a ****ing crook taking advantage of people.
40/1 on us to go up this season is a better bet. I'm not saying it's a good bet, but I think it's way better than the 28/1.
You can currently get the same odds for promotion this year on Betfair, so probably not much value in that bet seeing as we have to win promotion in the next four seasons and finish in the top 10 in the Premier League.
Will just clarify, I haven't put it on. That's my offer - wanted to share it here before I made a decision. Looks like you all think it's crap so I'll stay well away
that should be a 5000/1 like leicester city had to win the premier league and they where in the premier league at the time 28/1 for us to finish in the top 10 in the premier league when we are in a league lower and even though we have had a good start to the season the only points we have got in the league are at home it would be nice to finish in the top 10 of the premier league but them odds are very low
That's a very good price on one of the.best teams with the best manager. They've got that.price wrong
I'd need to wait another 4 or so games before I saw it as a good bet but I agree that bookies do underestimate us. I took 100/1 on us to go up last season when we were on a great run and only 10 points off the playoffs with a game in hand.
28/1 just sounds like a standard figure they give out for long shots, don't take that. We must be similar to finish in the play-offs this season?
Skybet have us at 11/1 to make the play offs - which is also too short, I wouldnt wanna take anything less than around 16 or 20/1. 28/1 is certainly too short. As a true price over a 5 year period I think we're closer to 80/1 - 100/1 - however, people stating we should be 5000/1 is a little silly. In the bookies defence, they're gonna have so few people bet on this that they may as well just throw out something like 28/1. Its a little like cashout prices - they're always shaving bits off what the true odds are.
