Well back to Oakwell again, home from home for eight of our squad. Around 1,200 fans coming It's not been a good Championship start for us, one point from 12 and five or six players out injured today. I don't feel very optimistic, after selling our two star players we have strengthened the squad in terms of numbers of players adequate at this level but non seem to be stand outs. Our style has changed and to me it Is not really very coherent. Everything is played out from the back and the margins that leaves our defenders for error is around zero and we will give away at least one goal a game. Our new record signing keeper has made two howlers and a couple of costly mistakes in four games. On the plus side the manager has tried to make it exciting to watch and been attack minded - naïve in many ways with a sort of we will go down fighting spirit. Maybe we will turn out to be like Man City and world beaters. Hopefully today will see us get something but if you play a percentages games I think you will win out.
Was just about to say a lot of posters have posted the same about us. We are missing a few key players ourselves too. Will be a few goals I think...
Blimey, we did look like Man City. Good day for us and gives me hope - you looked a shadow of last season
Yep, not good at all today. We’re a different team from last season, 6 (I think) of those that started today were not even Barnsley players last year. During the transfer window anyone that could be cashed in was.
You didn't really have to work hard for the win today pal. We were awful and unfortunately are a shadow of the team that ran you close to the title last season as you point out. I expect both of us to be down there at the bottom. I think you may have enough to survive but at present we don't.
Long long way to go, only one game today. I do like our attacking intent this season, we will score a fair few and let fair few in. Does seem you sold one to many. You had debt problems last season, is that right? We have little money, fan owned and pay the players by way the least in the league so good we are winning at all
No, no debt problems, we’ve been run well in terms of that for years. The mantra though seems to be sell 1 player for good money and buy 2/3 for that position with the proceeds and hope 1/2 of those go on to be decent. The problem with that is the players we are replacing the sold ones with are not at the same level when they arrive. Hence performances like today.
I'd be surprised if you were anywhere near the bottom. Some quality Players and more importantly some real desire and commitment from you lot. Add that to the fact that this League is dreadfully weak. and you'll be fine. Us on the other hand......We're not only taking on the other teams in the Championship but we've decided to do it with two hands tied behind our back. Some absolutely bizarre decisions being taken off the Field.
We sell anything pal. Any offer and they are gone Replaced with anything that a spreadsheet thinks will be profitable in the future. **** the league position and fans
We’re debt free mate and have some of the richest owners in the country. The philosophy is to buy young talent, develop and then sell on for profit. The proceeds are then supposedly ploughed back into the club for a better class of player so that the club gradually progresses up the league ladder. That’s the theory anyway......
Sounds grim. Have to say our board are absolutely bloody brilliant - they really have a fantastic ethos about not just the football but ethics, community and sensible business
He played a very different role today to the Barnsley player that I remember - much deeper, shielding their defence and spraying the ball about - we made him look like Pirlo.
He was very classy and the goal was typical of him. I think I'd look half decent against McGeehan though and I'm mid 40's with a gammy knee.
