a couple of ‘knee jerk thoughts’ !!! Think Stendel made poor substitutions, Thiam shouldnt have been brought on, and Wilks and Woodrow looked shattered with 30 mins to go but were left on, they’d done alright but with leaving them on we were struggling - perhaps it’s a symptom of having a poor bench? We haven’t been able to freshen it up at the front as we sold our centre forward and haven’t replaced him with anyone- or at least anyone who the manager feels is worth bringing on. Money in the bank or winning football matches....,,,in a tight game where we have done well and matched a team who are top of league and will be up there this season we have conceded 1 goal from an unchallenged header and one from a centre half giving a penalty away - we sold our 2 centre half’s. Really disappointed as I thought we did really well today. Maybe harsh and I don’t usually like to comment straight after, and maybe when I see the goals again I’ll change my mind, but they’re my initial thoughts.
Proud of our boys today acquitted ourselves very well against one of the best teams in the league. No disgrace losing to them, we fought well all over the pitch....they just had better players and it told, just about. Special mention to halme, thought he was great against a very good striker.
Yeah I thought we matched them, it’s fine margins - and I just feel we ought to have a strong enough squad to be able to make changes that don’t really weaken the team or at least give the manager some options.
Look at our changes, and look at theirs. Miles apart unfortunatley, but thats modern day fooball. They brought on 2 players with little change combined from 100k in wages. This game was never gonna define our season but there were some positives which we must take forward.
I’ve got to say - Stendel sees all the players in training every day. If he brings on Thiam or anyone else, he does for the right reasons and clearly sees enough in training every day to know what they can do. He won’t always get it right, but the thoughts behind changes will be thought out and planned.
