I mentioned this on another thread a day or two ago. The current state of play, effectively, is that the fans of the club are quite peripheral to the new owners hierarchy of priorities. The corporate/capitalist nature of the club now is that it exists as a vehicle to make money. Success for we supporters is a by-product of any success the owners have as profit seekers. If the 'product' on the pitch generates money for the owners then they will be happy. Relegation is quite immaterial (other than of course it won't generate as much profit as promotion) as long as the owners can still make money. It's this corporate attitude that pisses me off. There is no love for Barnsley by the owners. We are products and just part of the balance sheet. The result and performance today are not particularly important for the owners in the big scheme of things. They will say otherwise of course...
I’d sooner have owners who keep their eyes on the balance sheet than ones who choose to ignore it. If you’re not convinced just ask a few Bolton and Bury fans
I still don’t understand though. These guys are all wealthy, not the typical sort of non-Premier League owners. The money we can make by selling players, or even the club, would be pocket change to them. I really don’t get it.
That's not my point at all as I suspect you know. I don't wish for my club to go bust but neither do I wish to be logged as a statistic every time I walk through a turnstile or buy a pie.
Me too so no point griping. At least these owners operate well in terms of finance and we re safe from administration. Rome wasnt built in a day, first task is staying up.
I'm starting to think you're the BBS version of those Russian twitter bots that tweet support of Brexit/ Trump haha
No I'm not but some people seem to only be happy when they're moaning. Maybe I m not expecting so much as others regarding this season. We stay up with young players who have improved over the season and I ll.be satisfied. More than that I'll be ecstatic.
What did they do a Nice. Build the club up. Sell players invest that money in more players. Rince and repeat. They can then sell the club at a massive profit. That's the aim. Not a million here and there.
How does that apply to us though? We are more likely to go down than up and our catchment area precludes is from being a “massive club”. They aren’t taking the Man City approach of throwing money at it.
And this is exactly why fans like me and there are probably a few thousand of us, will stay away from oakwell until things change for the better and some ambition is shown. Better things to spend my hard earned on that will make me happy and not the opposite.
To me that makes you a supporter not a fan. ( and theres nothing wrong with that). A fan goes through thick and thin and being a Barnsjey fan/supporter there are going to be way more lean times than good ones.
Whatever, fan/supporter. It’s meant to be an entertainment business and that business is watching decent footballers and a club with ambition to me and thousands of others who don’t attend now who probably think the same tbh. I get your point however this board are badly letting the town and it’s fans/supporters down and until that changes I will remain a frustrated stay away supporter.
Where do you think the Cryne family fit into that analysis , as part owners . Surely the new consortium are just following Patrick’s blueprint
Wigan supposedly has ambition but their fans are saying the same sort of things as some on here, Stoke too.
