Jose Mourinho has just been asked a good question on Sky, why so many goals in games now, are the forwards getting better or are the defenders getting worse? His answer was both, I disagree, I genuinely believe that the art of defending has been stunted by fear, fear of the slightest touch on a forward in and around the box will result in the referee penalising the defender, the forwards aren't getting better, they're getting cuter.
I've been watching the game long enough to remember penalties being a real rarity, going to games never really expecting to see penalty kicks, when it did happen it was usually for an extremely obvious foul leaving the referee no doubt, defenders of yesteryear could and would play with real blood and thunder and genuine battles would ensue between forwards and defenders, this unfortunately has diminished in the game, I understand the rules have changed to allow more goal scoring opportunities, but, a real ding dong battle between opposing players was also great to watch and created good talking points after.

I think it's also partly due to no crowds, I dont think the adrenaline is the same, it's just like any other football match. I expect more goal less draws when we're allowed back into stadiums.

I agree about the crowd situation every ground becomes a neutral venue in essence.
