As I've said many times. America is a third world country in all but name. If they didn't speak English they'd be considered the same as China, North Korea, Russia or one of the many middle East countries which are treated with contempt
They are so pro life that gun ownership is almost compulsory in Texas. I must admit to being conflicted on Abortion but its a lot easier for me being a bloke to say that its not a good thing as I will never have 9 months of pregnancy to contend with, so I genuinely think women should have the greater say in this. I suspect is mostly men that have forced this through in Texas though
It’s the same in quite a few states (mostly southern) and is, quite frankly, ridiculous. Pro-life religious groups are spearheading the campaigns and seem to think they know best. It’s f**ked up!
Doesn't surprise me, Texas is steeped in fundamentalist religion as is most of the USA away from the big cities. This only reinforces my atheism. Christian fundamentalists are every bit as bad as Muslim fundamentalists.
I don’t think anybody thinks it’s a “good thing” - the point is that it’s necessary in many situations for many different reasons. Removing access to these services is about nothing other than controlling women. A political party that’s “pro life” wouldn’t implement the laws that the Republican Party implement that directly kill thousands of immigrants and refugees. Or the laws they also implement around social security that removes access to financial assistance for those that need it the most, directly killing thousands. Or the laws they implement around healthcare that forces the poorest in society to make a choice between putting themselves and their family into millions in debt or dying. This new law goes beyond what’s even logical though. Anybody can claim a $10,000 bounty by reporting someone having an abortion or “assisting” with the provision of an abortion. Meaning that they could sue a Taxi driver for example for taking a woman to have an abortion. A woman could also be sued under these laws for having a miscarriage if a random member of the public decides that she miscarried on purpose. I’m sure the usual suspects will be along soon though to defend the Republicans. This is all made possible by Donald Trump and the other Republicans in DC, by the way. Their forcing of his candidate onto the Supreme Court in the fastest time in history right before the election, in an attempt to steal said election, has paved the way for this law to be implemented as that appointment swung the Supreme Court even more conservative.
I disagree with this law wholeheartedly and it emphasises the catastrophic political landscape of US Southern states... But it's worth pointing out that the SCOTUS has not yet heard the case and has simply refused to suspend the law in advance of the appeal being heard. So there is still hope. The fact that 'pro life' senators who have actively discouraged the covid vaccine while forcing local coroner's not to report covid as a cause of death are the same ones who passed this law should tell you that these people care nothing about the 'morality' they preach. This is 100% about controlling people's beliefs and choices.
They ain't pro life, they don't give a **** after soneone is born, they're pro birth. I've said for a while that the US is going down the Russia route. A large ex superpower with a completely broken political system, police system, education system, health system and social service system which through complete undiluted capitalism churns out millions of uneducated individuals, who rely on bizarre interpretations of defunct religions and personality cults to provide moral and social guidance. Both the US and Russia would be completely irrelevant if they weren't so big and in the US case rich.
9 months is a long time to have an altered body and mind. It won't put an end to abortion, just make it unsafe.
There’s no way that women will know they are pregnant and be able to get booked in before the six weeks is up. I wonder how many of the people who support this even know that pregnancy is counted from the first day of the woman's last period, not the date of conception. So the first two weeks of ‘pregnancy’ is before intercourse even happened, and that’s if you have a regular cycle. Mine can be so far apart that I could be ‘six weeks pregnant’ on the day I conceived.
My proposal for this is that they can have this law around abortion on the condition only that the father is sterilized after the birth of his second child. He has to go for a vasectomy within 2 weeks of the birth. It would significantly reduce unwanted pregnancies and make the men take more responsibility for their actions... Its absolutely the woman's right to choose, at any stage of her pregnancy, and it should not be illegal to drive someone to a clinic for a medical procedure that she chooses to undergo, for anyone to perform that procedure or for the woman to make that very, very difficult decision.
They love to call themselves the leaders of the free world. They have absolutely nothing to offer beyond military and economic threats. No actual moral leadership whatsoever. Mind you Britain is equally bankrupt at the moment.
