    Is there a way to automatically mute my phone (actually just my emails) while I'm at my desk?

    I have got the world's loudest notification for emails on my phone which I need because where I work can be noisy and I get regular important emails but I also spend a fair bit of time at the desk and the loud notifications don't go down too well with others in the office So I'm after some way of making them shut up whenever I'm at my desk and not shut up whenever I'm out and about. I know I could manually adjust the settings each time but that could be about 20 times every day and sometimes just for a minute or two and tbh I'm far too lazy.

    I know that NFC tags can automate things and that my phone can also communicate with the Bluetooth on my computer but that's about as much as I know.

    Any suggestions geniuses of the BBS?

    On a mobile? Not sure what phone you have but on an iPhone there’s a physical switch on the side. Any phone must have a silent mode you can switch on and off with one press in settings, just leave settings open on your phone.

    I need to still have phone calls audible, that's the problem. It's just the emails that need to be shut up and the faffing about to do that I just can't be arsed with. Plus I'd forget a lot.

    This is what vibrate is for, you still know when there’s an incoming email or call but no noise.

    Do you need to check your emails during your work? If not, you can just go into your settings and turn notifications off for them bud.

    I didn't really think about that for in the office. Wouldn't work when I'm not at the desk as I barely hear it when it goes off now anyway but for office it could work

    I get my emails on my computer and on my phone. If I'm at my desk I read them on the pc if I'm out and about around the building I use my phone. Problem is I can be at the desk then up and out, then back at the desk and out 10 times in half an hour and constantly having to change the settings is a nightmare

    I just work in office/ clinic so it doesn't really get much hammer but id say it is fairly well made.

    @SuperTyke
    Do you have an NFC tag? There’s an app called Tasker that lets you set up ‘If’ X, ‘then’ Y. So you could do ‘If NFC equals true then turn notifications off’. The app costs £3.

    I have just ordered some for other purposes so I might give that a go. If it works it sounds perfect

    There's a similar one called "if this then that". I use it for all sorts, it automatically turns the heating off when I leave work etc.

    Will downloaded it and had a play (he’s a geek) and it worked well. You can set it up to do anything at all on your phone.
