Hi All, As some of you already know I was recently selected to play for England Walking Football 50+ Women's team for a match in Wales. (yes I know it's a very slow pace, and it's only women's football etc, but it's as high a level as I can hope to achieve at my age). However, we won, and it was an honour to play. It is the start of a new and rapidly growing structure, and I'm fortunate to be involved. I have been selected again for a match in Malmo, Sweden, in March, and am just awaiting confirmation for the World Cup in Mallorca, in May. As yet, the structure is not adopted by the FA, and so all players fund themselves. Don't worry, I'm not asking anyone to fund my jolly to Sweden. However, if there is a company / local organisation out there that might benefit from involvement with this enterprise, I am looking for support towards training kit. Training kits is worn on all media interviews (of which there have been quite a few already), and each player is invited to wear their sponsor's logo on the sleeve of the kit, and is permitted to promote that company. If anyone is interested, send me a PM. Official details below.
Not something I can help with I'm afraid but just wanted to offer congratulations on your selection and good luck in the upcoming game.
Same as Jay here - not able to help you with this, but I hadn't heard of your walking football thing before, so I wanted to congratulate you and wish you the best of luck. It sounds pretty cool, I must admit!
if a crowd funding kinda thing is set up then I will gladly donate. Also you should have a word with BFC, I would be surprised if they did not help in some way. Also well done lass.
Thanks, I think the crowd funding thing may come later, for the entire organisation, as they are talking about games in South Africa and USA, which may be a stretch too far for most players. I'm happy to cover my own travel costs for now, as it's a privilege, but the training kit/ equipment is pretty much compulsory and is the bit where a potential sponsor might get something out of it. I'm reluctant to ask for help unless there is a benefit to the organisation.
Hey , well done Fired, something I’ve thought about giving a go a few times, but never have. Just shows you never know!
Don't give it a second thought. If you've ever played football, or even if you still do, it is a great game. My daughter is 19, fit as a fiddle and plays with us. She still gets plenty out of it.
Thank you. Brought a lump to my throat that did, as they used to watch me when I was just starting out. Trying to work out who you are now!!
Played football competitively until various body parts gave out late thirties, think you might have given me enough of a nudge. Ps that’s age thirties not the decade
Was in St Mary's Church as a choirboy at their wedding. Went to a couple of parties, years later at Granville Street!
You're correct Fiona - RN! I think I may have seen you occasionally alongside your mother at Quiz Night in the Grey Horse at Old Town. Ian Hey as Quizmaster.
