Do people think the football authorities will revert to only three substitutes again next season?

I think this change has been good to BFC, with our style of play, although with the COVID-19 schedule congestion, it was needed for all teams.

BVI had a good point in his Pre(Post)-Blackburn talk. It isn't just a positive for during the games, but with larger squads, a requirement in these days of packed schedules, it gives more players a chance of time on the field. This can only be a positive for the mental health of the whole squad.

How do people think it will affect our performances, if we do revert to only three substitutes?

Theoretically it weakens the effectiveness of the press I think

We started the season with 3 subs, and I think it hampered us a little. Particularly in games where that extra change might have just got us over the line. Stoke away for example, or Millwall at home.

I think it benefits us greatly in particular. Take Sunday for example, we were able to change our entire front line, so we were able to maintain that high press. Dike and Morris haven't played tons of football recently either so may have been flagging. Add to that, the fact that we've been able to use it to ease Sibbick, Palmer and Williams into the team, who all have had injury lay offs. All this in one game.

I think it should go back to 3 after this season, there isn't really a reason not to is there?

I agree. If fixtures aren’t crammed in and they’re back to normal next season, I can’t see a reason why it wouldn’t go back to 3 subs.

As others have said, that could hurt our pressing game but I’m sure Big Val will get us to adapt.

I'm not disagreeing, but could you please explain your rationale?

The theory is that with fewer substitutes, the players on the pitch can't run around as much, as they will tire out. Hence the press will be less effective with less substitutes

I hope its here to stay. As said it gives more players game time and hopefully reduces injuries and keeps the intensity going for 90 minutes.

Agree. To be able to introduce 5 subs. Allows constant pressure. The Brentford game the prime example.

Yes, the reason is we play better with 5 substitutes :)
