We are blessed with so much quality in midfield now. Phillips, Russell, Connell, Kelly, Bland. These all look like Championship quality players. Russell's lack of celebration after his two excellent goals probably reflected his frustration at not having been picked to start either of the League games, and you can't really blame him. He ended last season making important contributions and scoring goals. He continued to score in the summer with Jamaica and did well again against Fleetwood. The problem is that we have other strong midfielders, some with other qualities, though none with greater class. Do we have the best midfield options of any club in our division?

In Jon we have the coolest midfielder in the League. The most nonchalant header into the top right corner you’ll ever see then a penalty kick without even putting his cocktail down.

I do! Isnt that why we are all here?

Fantastic midfield. Add into that Yoganathan too who, albeit a little inconsistent, looks to have a very bright future.

I said I was super excited before the season kicked off, mostly cos I'm far too delusion ( :D ), but after seeing our performances and what we are trying to do, I'm even more excited. If we can keep our best players and get another striker and centre back and we will be laughing!

Not weakest but most disjointed, we need an addition and a little continuity. Some positives vibes from the fans would make the defence stronger

A settled back 4 would help, so far with injuries and suspensions its been all over the place... already!

Might have the strongest midfield, but we are still light up top and in defence

Given the midfield contributes to defence and attack i would say no. They certainly do more than their share of the attacking contribution to our team. While ever we cant keep clean sheets the midfield and goalie has to be questioned along with the defence.

I presumed they were just managing his game time due to not getting a full summer’s rest.

So far we've seen Plymouth, who appeared to have three defensive players that they found off the street, and Burton, who have Jasper Moon and Kyran Lofthouse who were both monkey jizz on a stick when they were with us, so I can think of at least 2 with worse.

Midfield, we've currently some very good options, and I'm really pleased Bland and Yoganathan are getting game time. It will only improve them.

Defensively, we've not had chance to get a regular settled back line and we've only just brought someone in to play right back (ish) so I'd say it's not going to be settled for a little while yet with our best defender out.

If we look at the goals conceded so far, we had the goal at Plymouth which I'd largely put blame to an initial weak attempt to challenge for the ball from a certain centre half from disasterville. A penalty from nowhere from a daft challenge by McGoldrick, DeGevigney gifting the ball when the defensive line was super high and fragmented, compounded by Murphy not getting there and Earl and DeGevigney not being able to get back in. Then last night a freak corner which I thought Cooper should have done better with, then tiredness and too many changes in unnatural positions contributed to the second.

So of 5 goals, again, there's a lot of individual errors contributing rather than great play from the opposition.

I didn't think Fleetwood were very good at all, and despite looking very comfortable for most of the match, and I thought Barratt and Shepherd did pretty well, we still conspired to give away 2 very soft goals.

In defence of the defence Hourihane hasn't been able for one reason or another been able to play his strongest back four yet. Towards the end of the game last night was as a big a cobbled together defence I've seen in a long time. I also don't think he's played his preferred midfield yet and would imagine we won't see that until after the window closes.

I’d say yes but I thought we did last year and we were nowhere near except on paper on a good day.

Russell oozes class but doesn't seem to want to do the dirty side. He can be a bit lazy at times.
If his work rate matched his ability he'd be a top end Championship player for sure.

He's a luxury i don't think we need with the midfield players we have now , Kelly in front of Jon all day for me , in his last year i'd sell him now .
