3 Championship experienced centre-backs that we realistically could have signed and they would come to us, and were actually available. For reasonable money and relatively match fit. Difficult ain’t it..... The only lad I know of, is the Austrian guy from Watford Sebastian Prödl. Who is now a free agent so could come to us. But he’s had his injury issues. My point here, is that, as all the pundits say - the January window is always difficult to get the right players......and those who you might want, may wish to hold out until the summer to leave for better deals - like Cavare and Pinnilos have with us.
You realise that when clubs sign players they use sophisticated methods they don’t ask random people on the internet. They have at statistical analysis and scouts. Provide me with exactly the same tools they have and a clear idea of what my budget is and I will do the job and find you some players. Otherwise without the tools and knowledge no one can. It’s one of those daft things people say when they don’t have a convincing argument.
There is no excuse whatsoever to have three recognised centre backs, one of which is playing DM, going into the last few months of the season firmly in the relegation zone. A 20 year old CB on loan from a premier league team would have been better than nothing. Now we need to resort to free agents who may get better offers elsewhere. This hasn't just been sprung upon them. One or two injuries or suspensions at the back and we are totally screwed.
Starter for 10...... https://wiganathletic.com/news/2020...f-Brighton-Hove-Albion-defender-Leon-Balogun/
Maybe for purchases which I wasn't suggesting but plenty of loan opportunities to be had. Centre backs that have gone to third tier teams that would have been better than what we currently have.
What I got from that link was them advertising their local home derby for next weekend at twenty quid for an adult ticket. Imagine not fleecing the fans so they can watch what many would consider their biggest home game of the season for twenty is plenty......
We can't afford experience at the minute because we've spunked our transfer budget on.... Thomas Halme Schmidt Diaby Anderson Radlinger Collins Ritzmaier Sollbauer Bahre Ludewig Sibbick Imagine the collective wages there - and the amount we could then put to paying a percentage of wages to a few experienced loan players.
- Ritchie De-laet - Tommy Smith - Scott Dann - Ryan Shotton - Stephen Kingsley Sorry i didn't use the pro tools i just had a 5 min google. Didn't look for potential loanees but i spotted a few potentials too. Theres dozens that maybe could have been considered and for all i know may well have been.
No, I can’t name anyone which is why we look abroad as the majority of other clubs are gambling and breaking ffp with no consequences yet. Another thing is, I love my town to pieces and I’m fiercely proud of where I’m from but I’m not daft enough to pretend that even if we were in a position to ponce daft money on a player that they’d choose Barnsley over a city club. The other thing is, people keep bemoaning that our new players aren’t up to speed but then mention the likes of Matty James and Kevin long.
That list is very telling. There are few players that you could trust to play well in a few consecutive games. Some offer very little and others raise hopes and then disappoint in the next game. Problem is there are several more that aren’t listed but just as inconsistent .
Both the players you mentioned weren't 'up to speed' the last time we signed them - they'd not played much football for their parent clubs. They did ok through I guess. And as stated before, for the 50th time, we are not saying bankrupt the club. We are saying quality over quantity!
My point being, is that there’s not a load of choice out there which fits the requirements to appease the fans (Champ Experience). And when you narrow it down, who’s gonna come to us? And finally, remember Matt Mills? He’s the exact profile we need right now...... but look how he turned out! I trust the board to do their best whilst at the same time protecting the club. They have made mistakes for sure, but they know what we need. I think we’ll still sign a free agent now, if not two.
The club's recruitment team or whatever they're called have known for months what was needed.. or should have. What the foook have them been doing.. Their job is to find right people at right money who would come here....
