It’s been a magnificent season, whatever happens in the next three (or maybe six) games. I’ve never before gone through a season not missing a match home or away, but that’s only thanks to the iFollow coverage. It’s a bit sad knowing that it will soon be over because I’ve woken up every match day for the last year and a bit full of confidence and expectation. Almost like a kid waking up on Christmas morning wondering what’s waiting for him. It’s been win after win after win of course and I don’t care how scrappy or scruffy some of those wins have been. I don’t care how much tension they’ve caused when leaving to the last minute to get the winner, or have hung on to a 1-0 lead to get the points. It’s all part of that rich experience all REAL football fans get when they see their team play, and especially if they win. I feel sorry for the uncommitted; the floaters who follow the big clubs without ever being connected to that team, and just as quickly switch to someone else if they are doing a bit better. That’s not being a football fan. They are the “customers” that are sometimes referred to these days. I’m not one of those. I may not live in my home town but Barnsley have been my club since the early 1960s and that never wavered even through the bad times. We will beat Rotherham today, and then there are only two more match days this season. Or maybe five.......
Thanks and I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking along those lines. It’s another sunny, slightly warm day and I’m enjoying my walk around the Harrogate Stray, AirPods in listening to some good music. Home in about half an hour then settle down to wait for kick off. There would be between 15 and 20 thousand inside Oakwell today. If only that were so....
Nice walk that. I've done quite a bit of work on Cavendish Avenue. Lovely residential ave, just behind the stray. Enjoy the game.
