From 11v11.com That's a mixed bag. I know historic results shouldn't make a difference, but QPR away makes you think... 19 Nov 1955 Barnsley v Bristol Rovers W 4-3 League Division Two 13 Oct 1956 Barnsley v Bristol Rovers L 0-2 League Division Two 24 Aug 1957 Barnsley v Bristol Rovers D 2-2 League Division Two 07 Mar 1959 Barnsley v Bristol Rovers D 0-0 League Division Two 27 Nov 1962 Barnsley v Bristol Rovers W 4-0 League Division Three 29 Oct 1963 Barnsley v Bristol Rovers L 1-2 League Division Three 13 Mar 1965 Barnsley v Bristol Rovers L 0-2 League Division Three 04 Mar 1969 Barnsley v Bristol Rovers W 4-2 League Division Three 07 Oct 1969 Barnsley v Bristol Rovers W 2-0 League Division Three 02 Jan 1971 Barnsley v Bristol Rovers L 0-4 League Division Three 01 Jan 1972 Barnsley v Bristol Rovers D 0-0 League Division Three 26 Feb 1991 Barnsley v Bristol Rovers W 1-0 League Division Two 09 Nov 1991 Barnsley v Bristol Rovers L 0-1 League Division Two 27 Mar 1993 Barnsley v Bristol Rovers W 2-1 League Division 1 Our away form mind, is mesmerising. P16, W3 (inc. 2 batterings), D6, L6. I didn't realise we were that bad at their place. Anyway, back to the home game, p15, W7, L5, D3
We did. Fifth round, I think, the round before we got Ginola'd. They had a reight strikeforce. Ellington and someone else. Cureton?
Yes, 4-1. I missed the cup out (for the home matches). One of the three away wins was the cup too - 5-1 in '92.
Remember it well, great atmosphere, they brought around 4K fans. They had the old kop behind the goals and half the west stand. Loudly singing their signature song Goodnight Irene, think we were 3 up by half time.
But we had forwards like Hignett and Dyer that day. It was a cracking atmosphere and Bristol really fancied their chances of causing an upset but we were just too good for them. More of the same this Saturday would fit the bill nicely.
Yes it was and this dynamic strike force were going to blow us away, apparently. Craig Hignett showed them how it was done on the day though, bagging a hat trick. Over 17,000 in the ground, but a big following from Bristol. Not very likely that we will get near that on Saturday. On the other hand the long-awaited debut of our star striker from Fulham might tempt a few thousand extras. Or not.....
I'm not sure who was up front that day, but I know that they had four amazing strikers in the late 90s or early 2000s: Cureton, Ellington, Hayles and another whose name I couldn't remember. So you just answered that one for me, anyway!
Nah they were in the new north stand. One of the 1st teams to bring a big following. I thought it finished 4-2? Could be wrong like, about both in fact. It was nearly 20 years ago.
FA Cup game was 13th Feb 1999, just before construction of the new North Stand commenced. 4-1 win, Hignett hat-trick and a brilliant volley from a Bruce Dyer.
Good set of fans the gas heads. We used to play against both Bristol clubs supporters back in the day, and I always found them the friendlier of the two. I think City like to condescend to them a bit and they hate them in return.
Must have been ongoing at the time - I'm sure we had a sort of bright green barrier up at the back of the old kop.
Yes, I think you're right Conan. Green barrier was certainly in place when we played Spurs in the next round.
