Bump. Who else remembers the Jelly Baby advert that featured Norman. It must have been late 70s / early 80s.
Another nice tribute to Norman on the BBC Sports website. Norman Hunter dies: Leeds United great 'a man of steel who could produce silk' https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52243583
Would probably go down well on a Leeds fans site that mate. If anyone is able to post on their sites.
Norman speaking after opening Bremner Square. What a pity he didn't live to see his wish granted re- Leeds back in the Premiership.
It was good to see houses local to me in south Leeds with LUFC scarves out of their windows this weekend. Presumably for Norman.
Nice touch by Leeds. They have announced that the South Stand at Elland Road will be now named " the Norman Hunter Stand". It's the least that the great man deserves.
We should have done that for Norman Rimmington but I guess sponsorship money takes precedence in our case.
Personally I think stands should be done when the person is still.alive to appreciate it, like the Kenny Dalglish stand at Liverpool or our own Redfearns bar!
Didnt Manchester City have a problem with people wanting a new stand naming after Colin Bell - I think it won the vote on who the stand should be named after but then someone twigged that most people might not use the official name Colin Bell Stand but call it something else and so ignored the vote in true boaty mcBoatface style
Even though a Club might dedicate a stand to a dignitary or a former manager or player, the fans of that club usually continue to call it what it was in days when they first started supporting the team. Always remember a stand at Doncasters Belle Vue ground was called the Rossington Road End after the nearest village to the ground, which us kids shortened to "Rosso end." Similarly, I would imagine that the Beckett Stand at Oakwell will always be affectionately known as the " Ponte Road end" to a large number of Reds fans.
Always been the Ponty End to me without the "Road". Our young un still calls it the Ora stand which it was when he first went and for a number of years after.
Ponty for me - "Can you hear the C.K Beckett Roaring Ronnie Glavins always scoring " just doesnt sound right
