Like to know what the thinking is there. A couple of injuries in midfield and we look very short currently.
Peterboro must be laughing their tits off. We competed for him in the summer and now it turns out we've bought him for them! Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
perhaps he has not bought in to the present 'Mantra' that is BFC right now... he perhaps could have thrown a hissy and thus we have loaned him out... he may also not have been a good fit for our system... some you win some you lose. At least we will not have to support his wage bill totally... and who knows we may yet get our money back on him come January... lets face it Peterborough are no threat to us... if we are gonna let players out on loan then to not send them to rivals in the same league is good by me.
Re: perhaps A bit like Wigan have done with Morsy. Sent him out on loan to a rival club, it could be a loan with a view to buy in jan
Re: perhaps Don't think he expected to be sat on the bench and no chance of him getting in without a few injuries.
Re: perhaps I did wonder if we had bought him with the idea of being able to switch between 442 and 451, where George would be the attacking midfielder. I think that was a system which was tried against Northampton Town in the cup and did not work well. If the idea was/is to develop George into the replacement for Conor, that might still happen, but he wants regular first team football, maybe, and it does not look as though Conor will be going yet, nor that George has developed into the role to take his place yet. As he is still our player, I don't think it matters much, because he clearly wasn't going to get starts after the relative success of the first five games.
We seem to have dropped a bollock signing this lad. I think we thought he could play alongside Hourihane, but he doesn't work hard enough. A club like Barnsley can't afford to spend £500,000 on someone they aren't going to use. If the club wasn't currently awash with the Stones and Mawson money, they would be getting lambasted for this.
He seems to be a player who only really suits playing a number 10 role, or second striker. I presumed we'd play this away from home quite a lot and he'd fit in there. But I think that Northampton game possibly killed that idea, with his performance being particularly uninspiring. At present I don't think he fits in and I don't really see a natural path for him to get into the team, unless he develops into a centre midfielder. That said, I'd have thought we'd have retained such a pricey acquisition, especially due to us being light in numbers centrally. I can only imagine things weren't kosher behind the scenes. A lot of talk already about him joining the Posh permanently in January which I hope is jumping the gun somewhat. Slightly puzzling all round this one.
watched him walking to bench before rotherham game, head down dragging shirt along ground behind him, face like a slapped arse, thought there looks like a player who doesn't take kindly to warming bench, wont run about covering defence so no good for our present tactics of inhumane fitness ,pressing for 90 minutes, #marley watkins must be a robot the running he does
Good player, as proven last season, perhaps even worth the fee, but he doesn't fit in the club ethos and can't get in the team; so get him out on loan playing at a decent level (increasing/maintaining his value) whilst developing him. Making best of the situation. Nothing at all wrong with that. He was probably bought on the assumption Conor was leaving. Or at least on the assumption he'd be in and around the team. He's not. Nothing to see here. Move on.
Wouldn't be surprised if he leaves in jan for what we have just payed for him, 500k?? Doesn't really fit ATM and obviously doesn't want to work hard here for his place. Or he could be just loaned and if he does we'll comes back and gets in team. Strange one.
He probably asked for a loan. Not getting any game time and not looking to start right now. This way we get chance to monitor him, see how he performs, gets him game time. Worst case keeps him in shop window. Morsey brings cover. All round I guess this is ok as we haven't seen him get a chance here yet.
So Peterborough win all round they haven,t had to shell ot 500 grand now they get him to try for 6 months and probably will pay less than they originally offered.
He could have half a season out on loan and develop into a better player and fill the hole that conor leaves us at the end of the season.
Doubt that he is on a 3year contract. If he does well at posh and they want to buy we hold the cards.
He was signed to play in the same XI as Hourihane. Nothing else makes sense considering the state of our finances before the Stones/Mawson windfall.
No reason why the should pay less than originally offered. He's on a three year deal so if he regrettably does leave in January I'd want the same fee we paid. No need to sell, could well be useful to us in the future.
