If a huge bid is coming in for Conor as some are saying today, at what amount does it become in Barnsley's interest to sell? If a season in the Championship is worth £6 million for instance, would £7 million be accepted with a year left in his contract? Don't get me wrong, I really don't want to see him go. The money this season is insane.
This is my big fear today. I don't know about the figures you quote, but I reckon that at 10M he's a goner - and that's small change to Prem clubs these days.
Add in the fact that we can't replace him. Not even sure who we could throw £5 million at to replace him with right now. Too valuable this season and we need to be planning long term for his successor, assuming he decides to leave which he might not.
With that overhead kick you scored ; ) I agree orsen , I've been thinking someone's going to come in around 8 million and we'll take it
£10 million plus £3 million to buy us Bradley Dack. And I'd still feel like topping myself. Connor is not for sale! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It's not just the straight cash, it's the message it sends to the non-hardcore supporters, which will have ongoing financial implications too, and to other players. If we're to fulfil our prime role as a club, ie winning football matches to establish ourselves in an ultra-competitive league and grow support, there's no price that would tempt me to sell Conor today.
Today we really dont want to sell - no time to arrange any replacement - has to be £10Million + And we shouldnt be selling to any Championship rivals
We need Morsy or a first team CM anyway. Sell Hourihane and we need 2 and one of them has to be very very very good! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
We're by no means a one man team, but I think we'll be in for a very different season without Connor. It ha to be silly money to sway Patrick..
The recent cash injections should be used to keep players like Hourihane at the club longer term and we should only sell if someone does indeed come in with "silly money". If it's a fellow Championship club coming in for him then I would hope that he would choose to stay with us if we offered improved terms. If the Premier League comes calling then I fully expect him to leave regardless of what we can offer him (which would be no match for any Premier League team anyway) because every player should want to play at the highest level possible. Granted there are plenty of fellow Championship clubs that despite our recent cash injections could also blow us out of the water in terms of wages on offer, but unless they were running away with the league and while we continue to show play-off form, I would hope he could be tempted to stay.
10 million we would have to say yes. This board would go into meltdown next summer if he left for nothing when ten months previous we could have got an eight figure sum for him. It was bad enough on here when we lost Done after turning down silly money from Palace. If the same happens for Conor it would be many times worse on here.
