With around fifteen minutes left, Salford are beating AFC Fylde 3-0 and look on course to be promoted to the EFL's Second Division. Feel for Fylde after reading that their former Accountant has swindled them out of £250,000 which meant they have almost gone under. Apparently 38 year old Andrew Barnbrook used the money to fund his obsession with a Webcam model. Preston Crown Court heard that he showered Victoria Sinclair with gifts including a Rolex watch and Chanel handbag. Barnbrook admitted fraud and was sent down for 32 months, but sadly AFC Fylde cannot get any of the money they lost back and have had to take out a loan to avoid going bust.
I see a certain Scott Wiseman plays for Salford so congrats to him. Not sure I agree with how Salford are going up through the leagues though.
Can’t imagine City fans doing so. It’s like us getting behind a local side bankrolled by Chris Morgan and Kevin Blackwell.
Always admired his passion for the Reds. When he was here, always played for the shirt, that lad did. Pity it was Rochdale’s shirt.
Although promotion is probably more important, Fylde fans had already forked out for a trip to Wembley next week for the trophy final. Can't imagine many would be going twice in a week.
Four promotions in five seasons apparently, all achieved through the wealth of their main shareholder Peter Lim who owns 40% and Butt, Giggs, Scholes, Phil and Gary Neville and Beckham, who all have a 10% interest. They'll probably splash the cash to try and consolidate in the Division Two next season. Be very interesting to see how far they can progress through the divisions.
Yeah, I’d expect them to spend more than most in league 2 again. I remember a few months ago the Accrington chairman had an argument with Gary Neville over their spending when they were offering more than Aberdeen for players. I don’t like to see it and I hope it all goes wrong them personally.
Many Clubs in Non League and the EFL can't compete with them if they are offering money like that. Noticed that Rooney was not even included in the squad today.
Can't see it being sustainable long term. Aren't wages capped at 70% of turnover under FFP in League 1 and 2? One good thing to come out of it though is That FC United of Manchester have gone backwards in the past couple of years, probably competition for fans there will see FCUM disappear from the landscape. Always hated their name.
It shouldn't be played at Wembley. I remember it used to be at a neutral ground with a capacity of 30,000 - think Donny won at the Britannnia Stadium. Surely much better for the atmosphere than an empty Wembley?
Agreed it’d be better being played at Leicester or Villa. Somewhere central with a bug enough capacity.
