A simple question, why do some fans cling to every rumour as if it is a fact ? I know we all like a bit of speculation but some of our fan base seem to take every rumour as a fact especially when the rumour does not appear to be positive news , personally when I see a club statement confirming any news is when I actually believe things until then everything I read or hear I try to take with a pinch of salt.
I thought this was going to be a thread about the classic Fleetwood Mac album which gave us such classics as The Chain and Go your own way
Add to that, when we’re rumoured to be interested by nobody other than the ever reliable and accurate Nixon, and that player turns in to a world beater, it’s the club’s fault. When the same rumour machine links us with players who end up in non-league three years later nobody mentions we’ve dodged a bullet. Transfer speculation is probably the most/least fun part of supporting a football club though to be fair, so I get people being emotionally involved - I love new signings. Someone suggested Cadden was signing on Friday. Because he didn’t he’s obviously chewing on a pork steak down the road about to agree terms with dem Wednesdees.
Add to that, some people give more credence to a rumour simply because they heard it at the ground. I like to hear the gossip and speculation but as has already been posted it is simply that until it’s officially been announced
Think what frustrates fans is that when one of our players are linked with a move away from the club i.e Woodrow and then Morris it does seem to happen in a matter of days but incomings seem to drag on like this Cadden signing.
It's all good stuff.. just because it's talked about doesn't mean to say it's believed per se. Just talked about. Only time will tell who comes in and who doesn't. The question is can Duff and his staff mold an effective unit with who we manage to get in to win L1 matches..
In fairness buddy, there was nothing 'much' said about us signing Searle, Cundy, McCarthy or Connell until we unveiled them. And two of them were here and done two/three days prior to us actually announcing them. For which there are always reasons. Sometimes issues arise, or certain paperwork needs signing off, clearance and so on. Or, from a media perspective, we'd rather announce on a certain day etc. Sometimes, a very busy journalist will get hold of information. It might be that we've spoken to a player/club but the journo gets more bites online if they say it's definitely happening. Some of them are used as tools by agents to get their client's name into the press. Some clubs/players blatantly inform journos that a move is happening, to try and garner more interest in said player. In the case of Cauley and Carlton, both those deals leaked in advance of them being confirmed. They weren't just randomly dropped on Joe public. What I would add, is that it's much easier - more often than not - to do a deal and get it announced etc when recruiting a free agent. Unless that player has a number of interested suitors. I imagine we'll continue to look at those sorts of signings in the next 50 days or whatever remains of this window.
On the flip side though, every signing we've made this Summer has been under the radar and happened as soon as the rumour leaked. Whereas Styles has been in the press saying he wants to move on, and that Premier League clubs have shown an interest - yet is still here. The Cadden rumour hasn't come from the club don't forget.
Cheers YTBFC a guess it’s like everything these days we all want it today when a bit of patience is required and I’m certain in Duff we have the man to get these players in eventually.
Well for one you do not know me but I am actually a fun guy, no one enjoys a smile more than me & that is why do not understand why evry rumour is treated by some as deadly serious.
Who are these people who cling to every rumour like it's fact? I have never met one or read anything from anyone on here who fits that description. Vast majority show a healthy level of scepticism, so you often read a rumour prefaced with something like... Heard we might be singing so and so, don't know how true it is etc etc On the other hand there definitely are people who believe soccer transfers dot com or soccer wages dot com (or whatever they're called) are legitimate sources of information and quote the sites as evidence. The reality is the majority of values on there are simply made-up with zero source material.
