Died today. Came to prominence after that air crash which killed Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper and others. He stepped into the breach left by them, taking over some of their bookings. Had a string of hits after that. So, who's next? Jimmy Perry, Bobby Vee - they always go in clutches it seems.
Rubber Ball is a very good song of that era. Surprised he was still only 73. Shows how young those you mention were when they passed. For such a short space of time Buddy Holly probably had as many hits as anyone ever.
Saw him at the Club Ba Ba and the Londoner a few years after he had peaked. One of the great early 60s pre Beatles era - clean cut American pop, rock teen singers, along with Del Shannon, Johnny Tillotson, Brian Hyland, Gene Pitney etc ..... and with great catalogue of songs.
