Popular actor Windsor Davies who played the seargeant major in " It Ain't Half Hot Mum" has unfortunately died at the age of 88. I once met Windsor and the entire cast. My Sister in law was the Manageress of the Pier Theatre in Bournemouth and that season we were down on holiday and the theatre featured the very popular comedy. After the show we sat with Don Estelle, Mervyn Hayes and Windsor in the bar for drinks. He had everybody in absolute stitches and insisted on talking to cast members in character which was a right laugh. Happy times. RIP Windsor.
Never saw It Ain't Half Hot Mum and it wont be shown on t v now because it would be deemed to be offensive.
It will be cut to ribbons though. The comedy drama Auf Wiedersehen Pet is often repeated (all four series) on channels like Yesterday or Drama but the editing is just ridiculous. What was perfectly normal language in the 1980s is now deemed "inappropriate" which is ludicrous considering the language that features in so many new programmes, on all channels. It's just not worth watching the AWP episodes on there so I watch them on mediums such as Daily Motion. Uncut, unmolested TV gold. It Aint Half Hot Mum will get the same treatment because of the disparaging remarks by the Sergeant Major about "Gloria", one of the concert party. I never really found it all that funny before, so I certainly wouldn't look for it now.
