Sold my car this morning. Rang the AA to cancel the insurance. As the cover was until the end of December I am due a refund of £30.05. However, there's a cancellation fee of £30 so they are refunding 5p. Not a bad hourly rate for taking a phone call and pressing a button on a computer!! Not sure what to do with the 5p though.
I think it was Aviva, we had the family (four person) cover for four cars. Let's say it was £600 each (can't remember the exact figure). When my car went back, we removed it from the policy and the premium went down by £25. Go figure.
I've had my renewal through this month, it's actually down £15 from last year and around £40 cheaper than anywhere else. Think that's the first time in many years I haven't moved at renewal. SAGA, a benefit of being over 50.
We recently put my daughter-in-law on our AA motor policy for a month. We were charged £89 which was ridiculous, but we felt we had no other option. At the end of that month we needed to add her for another month, but they said we couldn't do so as only a single one month extension is allowed. They asked if I wanted to add her to the policy for the rest of its duration of about 4 months. I replied that it would probably be too expensive but I may as well have a quote. The quote was £24.99. I'm sure it makes sense to someone.
Having worked in insurance many years ago, it was often cheaper or at least relatively cheaper to make permanent changes that temporary ones. The logic was that there was less admin and paperwork for permanent changes.
Really? I was with Saga and my car insurance jumped dramatically. No changes from me or my car. Moved to AA for a better deal.
They'll only auto renew you if you tick or don't untick the relevant box, I always ensure I'm not auto renewed. Seems as tho, like most insurances, there is no logic behind the prices, but they were cheapest for me these last 2 years.
Rip off Britain ?... yeah it f*ks me off that I've got to pay over £5 for a beer/lager in the pubs!!.
