    Good grief - scary coincidence.

There was a post on FB a couple of days ago showing a picture of some of the players including Frank Sharp. I commented on his arrival in August 1970, along with Les Lea - both signed from Cardiff. We also got MIKE KEAR on loan from Boro’ and the three made their debuts at Valley Parade. We lost 1-0 but the forward line suddenly looked much better.

    RIP Mike Kear.

R.I.P. Mike. I loved his brief time with us and always wanted him signed full time.

despite his brief stay, I remember him well. I was playing on the Sheffield works leagues that season so only saw the Reds occasionally.

He was a good right winger and balanced the side well with Frank Sharp on the left. We could do with a pair like that now.

I was at that game. We had just sold Barrowclough to Newcastle United for £33k in the close season and spent £20k of that on Cardiff City's Les Lea and Frank Sharp. Mike Kear came on loan. The game at Valley Parade was one we should have won. I especially recall Les Lea skying one over the bar from virtually on the goal line. Sharp looked composed and feeling his way into the side. Kear similarly so. I was surprised that we did not sign Mike Kear permanently, especially as he just seemed to disappear after returning to Boro from our loan. All three were good signings and could have fired us up the league. RIP Mike. Would have liked to have seen you play even more games in the red.
