Right! So the election is over...

...Brexit is happening... so..... (and as one of the guilty parties for regularly posting on it) can we ALL, finally lay it to rest, accept it is happening , stop squabbling amongst ourselves and get on with making the best of it since there will be at least another year of negotiations before any trade deal is sorted .

About time everyone on both sides (leavers don't gloat and remainers stop complaining) put aside their differences and get on with life.

I see the BBC have now switched from stirring thing re Brexit and are now trying to do the same over the Scottish Independence referendum demands.

True. Incidentally my long diatribe on this thread re the difficulties Scotland may encounter re Inependence was not stirring it up but a genuine concern and the stuff I posted came form a number of sources. Most of the positive stuff i.e. " It will be easy to join the EU and we can use sterling in the meantime..." seem to come from pro Scottish Independence sources e.g. Scottish finance minister. I also was a bit concerned that you trust the Scottish Government to have things well in hand. There are shades of what went on re the Brexit referendum i.e. por brexit... "It will be the easiest deal in history) We all know how that went!

 

That's OK Tek. I read all opinions and easily sus out those coming from wums. You obviously have more knowledge than myself and I read your comments with interest. I do get possibly more pro EU info regarding Scotland than most of the posters on here and make a lot of my assumptions on these. Although I am friends with an SNP MP who keeps me updated. Of course I realise he only tells me what he thinks I should know.
Boris will be a lovely person over this and beating his lot with that big majority will be difficult. But I did hear that this could go to court. Interesting times ahead.

Boris has won and says it’s a new dawn ,
Well I’m sceptical especially when I see nasty vindictive Tory’s in the background people like Raab,IDS,Fox ,McVey and incompetents like Grayling and Hancock .
If he genuinely does as he says and tackles Homelessness and NHS shortages and social care and working poverty then I’ll work with him .
I’m always suspicious of promises from politicians especially Tory ones .
They have won large parts of the North, parts which have never been blue before so he has got a chance more than any other Tory prime minister had ever had of doing something positive in the north .
If he does improve our lot and I’m not talking about the ones that’s turned blue but the north in general .
If he continues to punish those that didn’t vote for him such as Barnsley etc then nothing will have changed.
If he does genuinely attempt however to tackle the problems then we can say this is a one nation govt but if he doesn’t and continues to look after the wealthy with tax cuts that could help these people then my truce will be over .
I can’t see him winning over NI and Scotland the damage that party has done in those countries will last for generations and I wish them well because I can’t see it bring a UK for much longer if he doesn’t tackle these problems and Brexit will roll on with arguments for years to come despite what they say and ministers will do trade deals to suit their friends as Fox did with the arms trade to Saudi.
Boris all eyes on you because if you let the North down this time you’ll be locked out for at least a generation .

 

Yes, Brexit is happening. There can now be no doubt that that is what people want. Moreover, there can be little doubt that had there been a second referendum, leave would have won by a slightly larger margin. Doesn't stop me thinking it is still a wrong and damaging move, but I guess we'll find out - and I hope I prove to be wrong. Boris has his well-known flaws, but voters appear to have priced those in and supported him nevertheless. And anyway, Theresa May was unimpeachable from a character point of view, but proved to be absolutely useless! I just wish Corbyn and his fellow clowns would exit the stage quickly so that Labour can once again develop some appeal to the middle ground voters. If not, Boris is already home and hosed in 2024.

 

Brexit won’t be properly done for a few years yet.

This year long transition period will be extended, whilst he flays around trying to tie up trade arrangements.

It’s an ongoing mess which isn’t going away soon.

But I agree with the sentiment on here - i can’t take much solace from a Tory majority but if anything, at least with a large working majority he can get things done. What he gets done I worry about - but at least the deadlock has been broken.

 

It's quite ironic that the Tories started this whole Brexit mess, failed to deliver it when they could and should have, split the country maybe irrevocably, and then got the public to believe that it was all the fault of Labour. When you put it like that it is either brilliantly conceived or just plain deceitful / lucky.
