45 Barnsley vs Barrow in the Rumbelows Sad ***** cup, 1st round replay, 68/69 season as I recall. We hadn't won a home game for 3 years so those attendances were the norm back then.
I don't think we'll break the record tomorrow. It being Everton's U21s rather than Fulham or Swansea's will create enough curiosity.
I've been in about 76/77 when there was about 1800 in towards the end of the season. You could sit on the terrace and watch the game without any trouble. Good times.
Interesting , my aged memory thinks that Barry Murphy played 199 consecutive appearances then was left out for Paul Turner then reinstated for the following game . Any thoughts ?
you sure it was that low in 76/77 I dont remember it being quite that bad - or maybe I wasnt at the game, though I thought I went to most home games that season
Yeah was a really sunny day, just remember looking in the Sunday paper day after and it gave attendance 18/1900 or something. Might have been the season prior to Allan Clarke getting appointed.
Luxury! I had to leave my exploration post in Antarctica at 2pm and then swam the way to Oakwell with 5 minutes still to spare
Luxury! I had to jump out of the International Space Station as it was passing overhead and dive into a paddling pool on grove street.
I seem to remember after a relegation to the bottom tier in the late sixties where the last two or three games attracted gates in the region of 1800 , ironically we won the games quite comfortable . I was there but for the life of me I cannot remember the exact season , hopefully someone who is good with stats can help me out , happy days .
It wasn't that low. The last home game of the 1976/77 season was Rochdale with a crowd of 2,531. The last home game of the 1977/78 season was Wimbledon with a crowd of 2,642.
