I have read many comments on the above And yes he was wasting time after they went down to 10 men But in all my time of watching football the worst team to waste time was acutally BFC Anyone who went to this game might remember Sheffield united away when Danny Wilson was in charge - 0-1 win Turnbull must have wasted half the match taking goal kicks from the opposite side etc ( he actually got booked and carried on doing the same) This is the reason why i dont get mad when opposiition teams do the same Every team does this and i am sure we will do the same at some point this season Its wrong and unsportmanlike but it happens and will contunue to happen until the Referee books them early on in the game rather than 2 minutes before full time when the damage is done
Our fans started shouting and booing literally as he got the ball, only a couple of times did he over step the mark. It was worse when he kicked the ball from his hands, which he was really poor at!!
Good point - but to be fair he wasn't doing anything wrong - the ball was in play for Huddersfield players to get
It's definitely a case of the 'swings and the roundabouts'. It's down to the referees, they should be adding 10 mins on (just like at old trafford under king alex)
The inconsistency of refereeing is horrendous. The Reading keeper did it several times. On one occasion, he had the ball in his hands for 17 seconds, I actually counted. Didn't get a booking. The first time Adam Davies did it against Preston, he was booked. Couldn't do it anymore. The referee solved the problem. Sent from my phone using my hands
He probably watched an Adam Davies dvd to see how it's done. Goal kicks should always be made to be taken the side the ball went out at. Sam Winnall should have sprinted off like Usain Bolt when he got subbed off because we were losing but he went off slowly humped back in disapointment.
And when your player gives away a completely and pointless foul when your losing in the last few minutes, thus giving the opposition a further minute of time-wasting.
it pisses me of if we do it and the other team do it, if i was the manager id stamp it out myself with a fine, it ruins a game for me
no different to taking the ball into a corner and shielding it with a couple of players IMHO...ALL teams do this so get used to it.
I reckon we need to stop being battling barnsley and be dirty b******ds barnsley. See how long we last compared.
Different situation, the ball was in play, any Huddersfield player could have made a challenge to force him to pick it up - they didn't because they were quite happy for him to do it.
For me it just highlights another frustrating inconsistency in the rules of the game. Refs are supposed to add on 30 seconds for each goal and substitution in the half. They do not have to add on any other lost time apart from if an injury stops play. Therefore, there should be a finite amount of time alloted for taking free-kicks, penalties, corners, throw-ins and goal kicks. Time is not added on for these because if it were, a match would take 3 hours to complete and then you're into the ridiculous realms of NFL (sorry NFL fans). If as you say, referees had the ******** to enforce the rules from the start then we wouldn't have seen such ridiculous flouting of the laws by Al-Habsi on Saturday. This is nothing to do with the fact that they won. I don't think we'd have scored another goal if we had indeed played for 3 hours on Saturday. It would just be nice to see some consistency from referees on this annoying nuance of the game.
Yes i'm fully conversant with the situation. We'll call it 'good' time-wasting then, as both teams were happy with it (peterbrough fans however would call it otherwise)
It's a grey area, collusion between the 2 teams could be construed as unsporting behaviour to another team in another game as happened in this case. But how is a referee supposed to apply that? All he as to go on is what is happening in the game he's officiating on. No actual technical rules were broken, the ball was in play and any player can hold onto the ball as long as he likes if nobody can be ars*d to make a challenge. This is in no way different to incidents where a team has accidentally scored a goal when giving possession back to the opposition after an injury and subsequently allowed the opposition to score unopposed. I fully understand the Peterborough supporters' might feel agreived, but they simply have to accept that their team would have done exactly the same in the same situation.
They have to accept that had they not f*cked it up themselves and hung on to a point or three, we would have gone down looking like the daftest team in history. It was in their hands and they blew it.
Re: no different to taking the ball into a corner There is a big difference between having the ball on the floor in open play and attempting to stop the other team from tackling you and holding it illegally in your hands for a quarter of a minute each time
I'm very surprised that it was never looked into as match fixing to be honest as both clubs decided to fix the result of the game as a draw. By one side standing still with the ball and the other making no attempt to get the ball the result of the game was fixed and that is against the rules. I suppose the technical aspect comes from whether or not players can be prosecuted for fixing a game without actually communicating with each other about it
