So as the Mrs forces me to watch - at least for now I will start one

    - I do actually enjoy watching the program though I must admit.

Can anyone see the program working as well without Mary Sue and Mel or will it do a "Top Gear" and be a shadow of its former self

I think it will be a flop without the original team and I think Channel 4 have scored a massive own goal - anyone else on here have an opinion

First couple of series were alright.

Channel 4 havent really paid for mel n sue etc but the brand. Which in the long term will pay back more than the outlay

Never even seen a clip of it never mind an episode or series, so if I was to start watching it I wouldn't miss the original presenters

I can't stand Mel and Sue so glad they're gone, Mary will be a miss though.

Would anyone grumble if Nigella Lawson replaces Mary Berry?

Not sure about that. I think a lot of the goodwill and popularity is tied up in the presenters. The BBC will no doubt launch "Britain's Best Baker" or similar with Mel, Sue and Mary whilst the "original" flops on C4.

Totally disgusted that we have a bake-off thread on here

Before anyone has a go, I do realise that by responding to this I'm keeping it at the top and prolonging it's life etc.

Ive hardly ever watched it but I think that Mel and surname awful presenters. They are completely unnatural and it's clear that everything they say is neither scripted or over the top deliberate for the cameras. I'm sure quite a few people will complain when they change them but I don't think that it will be a disaster like top gear has been because if they get the right people in the change can actually improve the show.

As for Mary berry that's a different matter simply because they need to try to find a sweet old lady to take over to try to keep the same dynamic as before

Never watched it as it's not appealed to me. Outside of Gordon Ramsey shows i'm not really into cooking programmes apart from Celebrity Masterchef (don't watch the normal version). Surprised that Mary Berry quit because outside of the show she does very little so her name in the media might fade (out of sight out of mind).

Lol - you do know she is a legend in the cooking scene dont you - she is now 81 so I very much doubt she cares if her name fades now - she got the Bake off gigg because she was a well known cook - its not that Bake off has given her fame

To be honest she may well have decided this is a good excuse to retire

Cameo appearances on things like loose women as and when she wants them beckon. Either that or the BBC have already lined up her own show for her and she knows it.

    cooking shows....

hospital shows, police shows, D.I.Y shows, dancing, skating, reality tv, soaps, chat shows.... etc etc etc.... if someone somewhere can tell in what universe this is entertainment and/or quality tv then bring it on.... I would rather stick pins in my eyes and eat my own earlobes than subject myself to that dross...... oh and add to that the house buying ***** too.

    Re: cooking shows....

Don't watch Bake Off either, Baz, but 10m+ tune in every week, with up to 15m for the final, so they were getting summat right.
