Last year (11/11/2020) I posted that my Daughter Rebecca Yeardley had graduated with a First Class Honours degree In Occupational Therapy at York St John University. I am posting now because it is quiet at work!
On Tuesday the 16th November the graduation ceremony finally took place at York Minster, originally it had been cancelled due to covid but after an on-line petition the University authorities relented. Before we made our way to the Minster, Rebecca went and collected her graduation cap and gown had official photos taken both individually and with me, the wife and Rebecca's Boyfriend Owen( graduate from Nottingham Uni in Computing and computer security, season ticket holder in the ponty). We met a couple of her lecturers and they said" it is quite alright to cheer and clap by the family when Rebecca has her Degree confirmed on her, even they can be embarrassed by it" Cue giggling by the lady lecturers and a certain look to me by my Rebecca, I said quietly" I was born for this as a middle aged Dad"
We went and sat in the Minster the ceremony started each graduate as they went up to receive a scroll from the Chancellor received anything from polite clapping, cheers from fellow course students to the only lad on the Occupational Therapy course who according to rebecca was a nice lad and popular with his course mates.
It was good to see the look of pride and joy from the families of graduates who could have been the first in the family to achieve degree level especially families who could be first or second generation immigrants they really cheered their loved ones. That was it the bar had been set, Rebecca went on stage we clapped and cheered and then for the first time in the 1000year plus history of York Minster the war cry went up from me
    YOOOOOOOOOOU REEEEEEEEEEEDS!
Our lass said" She'll kill you!" Owen who was videoing burst in to laughter and the family of Rebecca's friend from Lincoln looked around at me in utter amazement!
Rebecca later said she had not heard it, but it is on video and hopefuuly over Christmas we will watch and listen to the great day.

These days are really special mate, you and your family have every right to be proud, we've experienced much the same with our eldest, good parenting coming to fruition, congrats.
