Alreet Tykes, I believe I posted on here before our last match at Oakwell looking for places to enjoy a few ales before our match in err... well it's a while ago now! Anyhow to return the favour, and also help shift a few pints at my local, I would like to invite any travelling Barnsley fan to The Moorbrook on Saturday before/after our game. Opening at 12pm, The Moorbrook serves up to 7 cask ales and 5 keg/craft beers from all over the UK and beyond. The house cask pale ale is brewed especially for the pub by Blackjack from Manchester whilst the house pilsner hails from Belgium and is also unique. The 'base' lager is Stella 4 for those not into real/craft ale and there is a decent selection of wines and spirits. Food wise the landlord has recently installed a wood fired oven from which he serves home made pizzas constructed before your eyes. Pizzas are £5 or £7 with a pint of cask. I really can't big this pub up enough. It is by far the best in Preston and the atmosphere is friendly to all. Deepdale is a 10/15min walk away and there is considerable parking to the rear courtesy of a recently closed down B&Q. Plenty of space for a minibus or coach or two! I look forward to seeing as many Tykes as possible. 370 North Road, Preston, PR1 1NR. 01772 823302. @themoorbrook on Twitter/The Moorbrook on Facebook. PS Moderators that should be 'IN peace and ale'.
Re: Preston fan it peace and ale Hi Connor. I'd say about twenty minutes walk from the station or £5 (tops) in a taxi. If you arrive in Preston before 12pm I'd suggest The Greyfriar (Wetherspoons) as a half way stop off on the way up.
Re: Preston fan it peace and ale Well, as I'll be coming all the way from Kirkham I'll be giving it a try. Is it up by Evans cycles?
Re: Preston fan it peace and ale Yeah it is pal. Old B&Q behind and Wickes opposite. Next door is The Unicorn which is okayish but nothing like as good as The Moorbrook. Whatever you do don't confuse The Moorbrook with The Moor Park pub across the road! #beruit
Re: Preston fan it peace and ale Is there anywhere closer to the ground that's safe enough for away fans?
Re: Preston fan it peace and ale The Sumners is the nearest pub to the ground (2/3 mins) but getting served can be difficult when it's busy. Bar that I'd say The Moorbrook is the nearest as away fans won't get in Deepdale Labour Club.
Re: Preston fan it peace and ale My brother lives in Kirkham and is a PNE fan, I believe thats the pub we went in prior to our last game on Boxing Day a couple of years back. Nice pub and ale - though it did get rammed!
Re: Preston fan it peace and ale Had some good nights out in Preston - mate lives in Longridge so we often go for a night out. I had what felt like the world's biggest kebab near the train station
Re: Preston fan it peace and ale Does it have Sky Sports? Get into Preston from Blackpool on train about 11.30 and wanting to watch Manchester derby
Re: Preston fan it peace and ale The Moorbrook yes. The Sumners not sure, last time I went in it was a dodgy foreign satellite.
Re: Preston fan it peace and ale Is your brother 'Kirkhamtyke'? If so I think he's already posted on this thread.
Re: Preston fan it peace and ale No he's not - as Kirkhamtyke is a Reds fan. My brother moved to Kirkham in the 80's, wasn't much of a football fan but started going to Preston when his lads wanted to go to games.
