If / when we get promoted how many of this starting 11 would you want to replace with new recruits to start our first match in the Premier league. Collins Sibbick Helic Anderson Brittain Palmer Mowatt Styles Woodrow Dike Morris. Im starting with this team next season first game at home to West Ham. We will improve the squad with new players but im going with this starting 11. Collins, Sibbick and Palmer may be the places to add Premier league experience to the starting 11but I think these 3 will improve quickly and be top players for us.
Sibbick, Andersen and Palmer.. I think they would get ripped a new one in prem. I really don’t want to sound like I’m bringing them down but it’s just what I think.
Its not negative when talking about our players being good enough now for the Premier league as that is a level way above and you may not think Sibbick Anderson and Palmer are ready now but they may be in the coming years, they are all young. I didnt want to bring any down either, so i think its fine to highlight where we would need strengthening. Its a ruthless league and Im sure Val will be ruthless.
6 first team changes is a lot, Dont you think keeping these players together as a starting 11 will give us a better start than trying to integrate new players?
This is my only reservation about potential promotion. Every single one of these young lads have played their part in getting us to where we are currently at. An amazing all round team effort. It would be heartbreaking to gain promotion then have to let some of the players, who got us there, go as they are deemed not up to it. There was a ‘player of the season’ thread, a few weeks ago and some suggested one vote option should be ‘the whole squad’. I would go for that as if one player won it, there would be, in my opinion, at least eight others who also deserved it.
Standard required for what? I would expect us to fight to stay up and get stronger season on season with good recruitment and coaching as per the model. These lads are certainly at the standard to do that, maybe not for challenging for a champions league spot.
We won't go up but if we did I'd be all in favour of giving these lads a chance to enjoy the promotion they'd earned. As long as we got more points than Derby I'd be happy to take the Greed League's money and run.
Why so certain? If we make the play offs - and at this stage you’d have to have us as heavy favourites - then don’t we have as good a chance as anyone?
Yeah, as much as I'd like to give the current squad a go at the prem, I think we'd need wholesale changes. Mowatt might do a job, but I can't help feeling he's a yard too slow both with his feet and his brain.
I love what these lads have done this season, but if we get promoted maybe 2-3 would be good enough to be regular starters to keep us out of the bottom 3 and I am probably being generous. The gulf in class between here and there is huge.
I would have no greater expectations than bottom 3 in the Premier league. I didn't have much more than just staying up this season so give em all a go.
Its a huge IF at this stage. If we can win today, a 7 point gap with 4 games to go is comfortable and unless we had a complete collapse, is close to assuring a play off spot. We then have to beat either Bournemouth, Brentford or Swansea over two legs. Thats not an easy task in itself. And IF we manage that, we then have a Wembley appearance against one of them with pressure the likes the players have never faced before. One step at a time, lets worry about the PL if we get there.
Spot on. F the franchise balls in the Premier league but it would be a good achievement. The parachute money would set us up for life as we will invest it wisely
a. It's amazing that we're talking about possible p..... to the P..... L...... (taking Dane's cue here ) after being 60 seconds away from being a League 1 team last July. b. All the players, and I mean all, that have got to this position deserve a chance c. We will need more strength in depth, especially with P..... L...... experience d. Val is amazing and I love him greatly. In Val we trust, whatever happens today and to the end of May, because we are certainly in the playoff spots for sure
If we do go up, and it’s still a big big if, all of the players should get their chance I believe. I think it’s quite harsh naming players at this stage. Let’s be honest, there’s a lot that could happen and nobody knows how any player would adapt to the premier league.
To be honest not if some of them aren't up to scratch. I think Ismael has proved he can organise a system so the components are less individually important. It took us too long last time we went up to get players like Ward, Fjortoft etc onboard. Decide what we need/can afford from the offset for me.
