It’s been a long long long time since we went into a new season without having to start to build a team from more or less scratch. We are talking a management strategy for 15 years or more that threw the baby out with the bath water at the end of every season. So A MASSIVE THANK YOU to the directors for getting us into a more settled position. However, according to Gerhard the club is fighting to keep hold of 2 players at the club. Those players are probably Woodrow and Brown. It looks like Mowatt is staying but has yet to sign a contract. There has also been speculation. surrounding Chaplin and Odour. So although we now have a settled team when compared to other seasons in the not so distant past - there is still some uncertainty in a large part of the 1st team which could easily unsettle how the team plays. Obviously uncertainty of players remaining at other clubs could also unsettle how other teams perform. As a result of the transfer merry go round - we could see some unusual results. So don’t be surprised if Barnsley get off to a poor start this season. IMO - it’s detrimental to the game that the transfer window remains open into the start of the season. Score prediction 2-1. BUT owt could happen.
The transfer window has remained open into the start of the season for many years now, so nothing new there for all clubs. If you're talking about the game tomorrow against Forest. It'll probably go to extra time and penalties. Then anything could happen
I feel that the Reds will start the season on a high and we will be near the top into autumn. The Lads are revved up right now. This is a team that is tightly bound...
My gut feeling is that players should be told that nobody is moving in this window..Every year we seem to go through this thing about losing two or three or even more of our key performers. Frankly not withstanding finances we just need more stability at least for a while.
Seems pretty much like a season start much in line with our normal position. Maybe a bit more settled and experienced for the league that normal which is very much a positive. Transfer window being open and player speculation is normal for us and many clubs at this stage. We have seen some players leave and as usual we will start with a few positions that the manager feels need strengthening. I would argue we are in a better position to start than many seasons in the past but not in the perfect position.
You are right about every player has a price, not just at small clubs like ours but top premier clubs will sell if the price is right , history proves that .
