So the data used by scientist to determine if hydroxychloroquine is suitable as a covid-19 treatment or not was potentially suspect. Nothing wrong with the methodology, nothing wrong with the conclusions drawn from that data. It just turns out the data is made up. WTF. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...-world-health-organization-hydroxychloroquine Edit added: Why would you make up data?
Several reasons including:- To "prove" something you believe in but there is no empirical evidence for. To sell a drug which has no efficacy for profit. To get acceptance of a political stance which may have no sensible basis. I could go on. Hold on there's another one, one which I was actually guilty of when I did my degree in Chemistry:- To cover up the fact that you're a totally inept scientist....
My question was one of incredulity and semi-rhetorical. Thing is the methodology etc. from this work is sound, so the inept science thing doesn't stack up. I suspect that the majority of people on this paper are guilty of no more than not checking the source of the key data, i.e. trusting one of their collaborators.
Fair do's, my reply was intended to be humorous, I accept totally that I could be an appallingly bad comedian....
