In the organised footy I've seen (as recently as today) there is zero social distancing going on amongst parents and families on the sidelines. While we'd all (I hope) support the benefits of sport and physical activity for the youngsters we don't really want to have to see this lockdown going on for a moment longer than necessary. Some of the parents/families I've observed would appear to be oblivious to the recommendations.
Maybe they should implement 1 parent at the game per child, but like I said if schools and universities can stay open I dont see why kids football cant take place. If a vaccine isnt found I dont think it will be the last lockdown we will see.
I’ve been up at redfearns today and the social distancing measures they have in place were better than my workplace and followed by all . You will always get some idiots
Maybe because education is vital and whilst exercise is also important, one does naturally take priority over the other.
I honestly can’t believe how people can put the need for U12 football going ahead on a par with general education. The mind boggles at times.
Not saying it isnt but if it's safe enough for kids to attend schools and nurserys and students to attend college surely it's safe enough to play football outdoors. The fact is kids are still going to school so there parents can keep going work. Fakelockdown
Not sure anyone has ever claimed it’s entirely safe for kids to go to school. But the balance of risk vs reward suggests (rightly or wrongly) that schools should stay open. It’s about minimising risk, not eliminating (or dismissing it). I honestly believe that the risk of an U12s football match is not worth the reward in the current climate, by comparison to the education of a generation of children.
It’s odd how football has been like this. I coach a girls U16s rugby league team. Obviously with the contact in league it’s been longer getting back. We were finally allowed to play last week. But there was a lot of rules. only 1 parent per player allowed to attend and must social distance, minimum of four balls to be used. New sterilised ball to be used every time current one goes out of play. First aider dressed like a forensic scientist. Kids can’t spit or game must be stopped and it cleaned up. If player touches gum shield must leave pitch and sanitise. Masks to be worn by any coaches etc entering field of play. No changing rooms and no socialising after wards in club. Open age played a pilot game this Saturday and zero spectators were allowed. These were just a few of the rules. Saying this My kids have played both rugby and football and even in normal times junior rugby league is light years ahead of junior footy for regulations, child safety and safe guarding etc
