With the current situation and financial implications would you doubt that our top players as in Woodrow, Brown, Chaplin, Mowatt may now end up staying longer as clubs in the championship will not have the spending power to be spashing out. If the season does end and we go down then that would leave us with a really strong league 1 side while the majoirty of teams in that division will be really struggling financialy due to the lack of incoming money. I would imagine bfc are currently in a decent position commercialy compared to others in our league and below. Will the current economic issues affect championship clubs spending next season or will they continue to spend money above thier means or will we now see a change in how football is run?
I actually think that asking the players to take a pay cut whilst their employers claim to be billionaires could have done a lot of harm to the hopes of retaining our players.
If mowatt doesnt sign a new deal apart from triggering the year extension he will be gone. We paid 500k for him if we get 1million plus this lot will be happy, see it as a profit with a few add ons in. We wont let him run his deal down and the chance of him leaving for nothing next season no matter what division we are in. With brown, woodrow and chaplin I'd hope we wont be parting with them unless we get a big offer as they have a decent amount of time left on there contracts.
Lots of teams are looking at the same options. Not just us. If you read Mowatt’s statement in the chronicle he points that out. Although saying that , we are in a better financial position than most it seems.
If football does find a way to start again and the season goes beyond the end of June can the players who are out of contract continue to play or do teams have to play on with the players they have left on the books?
