because he believes that the side will ultimately be stronger with other players he's signed or is targeting. Given that he was virtually doing the CEO role I'm struggling to believe that he didn't think about offering a new contract. Perhaps instead it's part of the plan and he's comfortable with the entire situation, that selling him now is the best thing for the club and is confident that we'll move forward and ultimately be in a better position for doing so? I enjoyed watching Robbo a lot and the fact that he's one of our own makes it even more painful but his distribution wasn't fantastic and he had / has a weakness when the ball is played into the channels and he has to turn back towards his own goal. Irrespective of how good I thought he was, we conceded too many goals last season so maybe Hecky thinks that we're actually strengthening. The worst case scenario for me is that Hecky wanted to offer him a new contract and wanted to keep him but was over-ruled. Because if that's the case him moving sooner rather than later becomes far more likely imo. And if Hecky was to go then we really are f****d imo. He's the most important person at the club. I'd venture to suggest that the importance of one man has never been greater than in my lifetime.......
Good post, and I have posted similar elsewhere. However, if it backfires and we end up shipping goals all over the shop in the first few months of next season, it will look like a massive miscalculation.
