See Guardian report of game. I quote "Digby played as a quasi sweeper, screening the back line superbly". Not sure why you would think I made it up?!
He was a lad who came through our acadamy & was a great prospect, I believe he was one of the youngest players to ever play for us but unfortunatley he suffered growth problems I believe , he was really a big lad at a young age & he spent a long time out of the game with his problems & he eventually left but now he seems to have overcome his problems & has rebuilt his career, make no bones about it the lad is quality & I wish he was with us now, in my opinion despite all the problems he has had he is still a lot better than any of our current midfield
Yes quality with no goals and 1 assist all season in a team looking like being relegated, did you ever see him play he was terrible,a yard slow in every situation
It’s rare to see such a tall midfielder and he looked clumsy at times but McCarthy certainly liked him. He hasn’t reached the heady heights of Manchester but seems to have found his level.
I didn't. Your OP didn't mention The Guardian. The version of their report I've read this morning [posted 19.28 GMT on Saturday - so I suppose technically, it's The Observer] doesn't mention him. So either they've edited the version you've read since, or perhaps even expanded it. I'm glad he's found his niche in front of the back four - didn't Mick McCarthy attempt to turn him into a centre half? He was well short of Championship standard to my eyes though. Although that could be said of a few of our present team/
Weird one. He came on at Derby away in about 2011 as a 16 year old and looked a brilliant prospect. Then all I can remember, probably unfairly, is him looking like an utter donkey under Danny Wilson and Lee Johnson in L1. I'm glad he's making a decent career for himself now.
No, I'm not disputing what you say. I'm just saying we must have seen different versions of the report. That happens, as the online paper is edited. I went to the Guardian site to see what they had had to say - not to doubt your word.
Another "great prospect" from our academy that ends up in the lower reaches of the football league. How many of those have we seen over the last 20 years? I know we had some good ones (Stones being a clear example), but the vast majority unfortunately do turn out to be dross. Our academy has (had?) a good reputation, but I'm not really sure why that is. For a club that is supposed to make money by developing young players and selling them on, we don't seem to do that very often, certainly not enough for it to justify "the plan".
His situation while here was probably similar to that of Jasper Moon currently, in that he was a developing prospect who was kept in the first team at a time when he would probably have benefitted from being dropped for a bit. Consequently, his form probably took a further hit as a result. He also suffered from huge expectation being placed on him based on the fact, I think, that he was one of a few young players invited to train with the England setup (or something like that). Good to see that his career has developed since he moved away. I'd expect him to be a much more complete player by now, albeit perhaps not at the 'future international' level he was being talked about when he first broke through. As someone has mentioned, injuries may have been a factor in that.
