According to 'Talkshite' it sites the age of the West Stand as the reason for lacking modern features, and a small capacity leading to lack of atmosphere. https://talksport.com/football/efl/...und-the-valley/amp/?__twitter_impression=true I often wonder if they actually visit the grounds, or just Google stuff. How in anyones imagination are Griffin Park and Kenilworth Road better stadiums than Oakwell?
And yet Hull's 25k capacity is "decent". Never mind actually visiting the grounds, I'm not sure they've read their own article!
It’s not the worst at all, but the comments about the west stand and how it impacts atmosphere is pretty valid in my view
Yer not telling me hellend road is the best! It seems to me that they've gone by their favourite teams not grounds, biggest load of rubbish I've read lately!
When we knocked Chelsea out of the cup a few years ago it was voted by (I think it was) the press the best atmosphere at any ground during that season. These owners and management team have a journey in front of them to get the atmosphere buzzing. But it can soon happen. The ground is ok - but it’s worth remembering that during the Patrick era of 14 years there were no major improvements made.
I don't think the west stand affects atmosphere. If there's an exciting game and a decent crowd, it doesn't make any difference. My experience as a bloke that pretty much goes to every home and away game is that home crowds are fairly quiet anywhere you go. The west stand is old, sure, but it represents less than 25% of the whole stadium.
But 3 parts of the ground are only a couple of decades old. Those parts don't need any major improvements. West stand does, but unless it's going to pay for itself it'll probably stay as it is.
The alternative being no ground and some imitation BFC in name only team playing at Dorothy Hyman stadium.
I think what makes it worse is a poor away following. if the west stand is largely empty and the away end has a few hundred in it, its pretty grim to be fair, Nowhere near the worst, but I think we have to accept a neutral really isn't going to have any love for that structure
Agreed if we're talking league one away followings, but the OP is based on the championship where there will be some decent numbers in the away end.
Blackburn in the middle with a stadium very much like ours (3 sides developed) its just lazy journalism. For me and not just because they're our rivals Hillsborough has to be one of the worst, decent capacity but in the dark ages
It's also worth remembering we don't own the ground a bit like a council house would you build an extension on one you didn't own?
is a toilet, but I think they are getting a new stadium. https://www.stadiumguide.com/new-luton-town-stadium/
I personally wouldn't spend anything significant on the three newer stands we have, other than general maintenance and some of the art work and similar stuff that adds to them. I think that the time has come, subject to a budget being available, for the West Stand to be redeveloped. I know there have been threads before on here, but I'd favour something simple like the newest stand at Preston. I can understand the history side of the stand, but I was more gutted to lose the old Ponty End, that meant more to me.
If I owned 50% of that council house and my business depended on it - damn damn righty I would spend on it.
