    Hi all,

Can anyone offer advice on which software they prefer for family trees?

We have Family Tree Maker 2014 currently but I think I'd like to 'edit in the cloud' now rather than having a local copy (not that I'm keen on a subscription based business model).

Any pitfalls or major advantages to any you can think of? Cheers.

Tricky question....in my experience you need to subscribe to both in order to get the maximum information...neither has everything and each has it's own advantages.
As for purely making a tree I have an annual subscription to Findmypast, but haven't tried using the treemaker....Ancestry's is easy....but.....there are a lot of hints from other trees you can use, but if you're not careful ( and I'm speaking from experience) you can end up with your grandfather being named as your great aunts brother in law..or some such.
As for a readable flexible tree I made my own in a publisher type program....Corel draw in my case. Make your own sticks and branches....once you've done a few you can just copy and paste them...add your own photos and text boxes for info, once you've filled an A4 size...save a separate copy to pdf, then increase the page size to A3 and keep adding etc etc.
Makes it easy to read, all the info is there in front of you and easy to print off for relatives.
