Cannot help thinking that if this match had been played on the original date the result might have been different. We had just beat Derby,Plymouth,Wednesday and Wycombe.Dont get me wrong ive no problem with last nights result the best team won,but we needed a miracle for automatic and probably were glad to get fourth with the kick off times being on saturday at 3 oclock,so our mindset and energy levels subconsciously were 5% down where as Ipswich were just about promoted if they won.Just a thought.
We'll obviously never know, and they may have beaten us on the original date, but I agree that we were in a better position to play them then certainly. They hadn't built up as much momentum and belief, we were in imperious form, top 2 was still well within reach of both sides. I don't think it's necessarily a defining moment though - we still played and lost to Burton and Exeter, as well as drew with Lincoln in the games inbetween.
It's impossible to say really. Before the postponement was announced, we were concerned how we'd navigate a 10 day stint where we made the long trips to Exeter and Wycombe, and faced Wednesday and Ipswich at home. Having beaten Wycombe and Wednesday amongst a run of 12 unbeaten, in hindsight it looks like that would have been the perfect time to play them, but we'll never know. I do think bringing Greg Leigh on, for only his second appearance since the postponement, was a bit of a 2 fingers up from them though.
