…..what a great run from Jordan Williams. Outstanding to pick up the ball so deep and then pick out a perfect pass to Cauley. Top class finish as well. I did watch the game on Sky but chose that moment to go and do something else so this was my first proper look at it. Also their goal - why didn’t the ref just wave play on when it was obvious that they were both engaged in a wrestling match? Then the “punch” from Collins. Good grief man - just catch the ball! Sad to end our season losing like that but no complaints overall. It’s been wonderful to watch home and away matches week after week and I can’t wait for August.
Williams is the only player, outside of the front three, with any pace and he put it to good use in both attack and defence last night. As good as brittain is, I hope Williams gets more starts next season.
I thought the pass to Woodrow was a scuffed one that just about got to him(which isn't a knock on him The run was brilliant and I think the only time any Red shirt had done that). I only watched in real-time though(can't bring myself to watch the replays yet), so may be wrong. I remember Woodrow did so well to finish it, as the ball was actually slightly behind him and he almost had to dig it out to get the shot away. As for their goal, you can put it down to a number of things as you have pointed out. It was a great goal, but Brittian shouldn't have let him past so easily, but then he wouldn't have to make a challenge at all if Collins had caught the free-kick, but then he wouldn't have to if there had been no free-kick given in the first place. I remember having a similar conversation with a footballer I know after he had made a ****-up to concede a goal. When analysing the game afterwards, his manager put the blame on a winger losing the ball too easy nearly 4 minutes earlier, which is something we as fans don't think about...
But that winger wouldn’t have lost the ball so easily if 20 minutes earlier the defender had picked his nose with his right hand instead of his left.
I suppose it a never-ending problem, and the managers have to decide where to draw the line. I remember saying I'd be pretty ****** off if I got the blame for something that happened 4 minutes later...
The live showing of CW goal doesn’t do credit to how good a goal it was, saw it from the side later and looked real class
I don't agree about it being a "scuffed pass" from Williams. The lad burst a lung to get there in the first place, running almost the length of the pitch, beating defenders on his way. He then looked up and found Cauley perfectly who then did what we have seen so little just lately. He took a first time shot and found the bottom corner superbly. Like most on here I rate Callum Brittain very highly but he doesn't do measured passes often enough. Some of his crossing has been brilliant, leading to goals, but it's a toss up for me between him and Williams for that right back spot. They are both young lads with much to learn and we are lucky to have that kind of competition for one place. Who starts next season is anybody's guess. Maybe Callum will be snapped up by someone in a multi-million pound deal. Good luck to him if that happens.
Yes he did and had that been their right back he would certainly have made sure a trailing foot was caught by our “vicious tackling” full back and he would have fallen in spectacular fashion, at least three rollovers while screaming louder than the crowd. Then Ayew and his crew would have engulfed the ref demanding a red card. All credit then to Jordan for playing the game as it should be played.
They're just demonstrating how they already belong in the prem. In all seriousness though, I hate that this is the case, but sometimes I think we play too honestly for our own good, what you see is what you get, and if we're tough in the tackle we don't attempt to hide it. There was only one goal in it over 180 minutes, and a huge part of how they stifled our attack was playing to the ref.
