We're quick to jump on refs' backs, so it's only fair to give praise where praise is due. Thought Mr Yates had an excellent game today. Didn't give any soft fouls and tried to keep the game flowing. Used his cards when needed, but didn't hand them out willy-nilly for any old foul. Missing Cooper being clipped by an elbow was probably his only real error (plus his tattoos are extremely silly).
And yet 2 blatant fouls by the same player in a matter of minutes, doesn’t even warrant a talking to, probably because he wasn’t our player
Yes and the elbow clip on Cooper was deliberate and could have walked IMO, but he did have a good game overall
Thought this myself while watching the game. The best refs usually go unnoticed during the game. He was fantastic. Don’t think he got much wrong at all.
Erm for fhe most part yes I agree. Did give their LB some soft free kicks for diving and also let a couple of yellows go for the same don’s player in a matter of minutes late in the game and didn’t book him for either in the end, When did become acceptable for players to just hold onto players after the balls gone to stop them running also btw.
I thought he was decent too. Although the very blatant, not subtle at all, drag back on Cleary was a yellow card all day long so not sure why it wasn’t. Would also argue there was a cynical swipe on Connell in the first half that could’ve been a yellow. There was also the moment where their player went down for absolutely nothing but grabbed the ball with his hands meaning the ref has to give free kick and not handball. The blatant elbow needs to be looked at by the FA. Not that it would really help us now. Best we’ve had in a while. Which says a lot really.
Thought overall he was okay but missed the elbow. Agree for the most part about soft free kicks, but that stopped after they went 2 nil up. Gave atleast 3/4 very soft fouls to them.
Wasn’t even attempted to be disguised by the defender, just a blatant pull/grapple down to stop him running away.
The forearm smash was a red card had Cooper made more of it. At least give the ref a decision to make.
