Unless the offside rule has changed, I thought you had to be in an offside position when the ball is played. Looking back at the Cosgrove disallowed goal, Jalo was onside as the ball was played and therefore the goal should not have been disallowed. The time it took for the linesman to raise his flag makes me think neither he nor the referee were sure about what to do and so played safe by disallowing the goal for offside. The trouble is now players appeal for everything they can to gain favour and influence the referee. Look how they encircled the referee over Luca Connells tackle trying to get him red carded or Kane Hemmings screaming in apparent agony after a tackle in the first half when the referee waved play on as he realised that it was just play acting( cheating some would say)
It depends if Cosgrove flicked it on. If he didn't then it wasn't off, if he did then it was. I think the delay was the ref and linesman discussing whether he touched it or not
I think the ref thought about it for a second or two then spoke to the Lino and told him to flag it just in case. It seemed to take forever longer than waiting for ******* VAR .
Looking on the highlights, if Cosgrove flicked it on (which is impossible to tell) then Jalo was offside. At the match I thought it had come off the defender in which case the goal should have stood. I guess only Cosgrove and the defender are the only ones who can really know.
