I actually managed to get to this game and the comments from Hassell are spot on We showed promise in parts but too often took the wrong option when we could have been in on goal I didnt really know most of our players but the following I noticed Walton GK - played well 2 or 3 excellent saves and couldnt have done anything about the goals Mottley-Henry raw talent, quick and had their defence all over the place, but he has to learn the final ball Kay - seemed to be in the right place a lot of the time and had decent skill on the ball Templeton and Cowgill did OK but didnt stand out and our #10 (dont know who he was) showed decent skill at times holding balls up when played from defence No complaints about the score line - I couldnt see us scoring second half and they were the better side
Motley -Henry unplayable at times Bobby said , could be getting involved with first team if he keeps playing well
Needs an end product before he can start thinking about the first team. Definitely an unpolished something hopefully diamond but he is some distance from the first team at the moment. Who knows in a few months though.
Is there that have no chance of making the 1st team out of who played and do you think Templeton is more of a winger or LB
Interestingly, having watched the games against Hull and Ipswich, they were the 3 players I picked out as our best performers. Jacob Brown also had a very good game against Ipswich.
Hard to really say on just one showing - Templeton did OK as a left back didnt do much going forwards so not too sure about his strengths The only players I could see getting near our first team squad based on what I saw were Walton, Kay and Motley Henry. Possibly our #10 but I dont know which one that was (Brown?) but I wouldnt rule any out completely. Biggest disappointment for me was Charles almost never in the game and when he was it didn't work but I wouldn't write anyone off on one performance.
we tried hard last night but were always second best really. Its no great shame as pompey had a team out with about 1000 league appearances and plenty of experience. Conor Chaplin was the star man even though hes about 4 foot tall. i thought Kay in midfield was our best player, plenty of energy and skill. Walton had a good game in goal too Mottley-Henry needs an end product, he is fast and causes problems because of that but last night his and everyone elses final ball was overhit or mis directed.
