EFL COMMITS SUPPORT FOR KNEE AND LEAGUE WIDE ANTI- DISCRIMINATION ACTIVITY Club News Ahead of the weekend’s opening round of League fixtures, the EFL is reaffirming its support to any player(s) and staff who wish to take the knee during the 2021/22 season. Continue reading on the official site...
As taking the knee is a show of solidarity against racism, would you consider anyone who boos players taking the knee to be racist? I would.
Well I don't know from that article if we plan to keep taking the knee but would hope if they do nobody would be stupid enough to boo it.
Yep, booing an anti-racism message is by its very definition racist. There is no other way to view it.
I'd like to hope that clubs are setting up to video the stands and identify those "people" who are booing players taking the knee and ban for life anyone found guilty. It's rare I agree with the EFL but the final sentence is spot on. "those who do not share our opinion on removing racism and discrimination from our game are not welcome.”
No, haven't you heard - it's not racism, it's legitimate concerns about Marxism. If they don't boo there's a real danger that Callum Styles might seize the means of production.
We ought to all be provided with a cardboard sign which says "this person is a racist" with an arrow pointing down on it, and who ever is sat behind someone booing should hold it behind their head for the entire game.
Let's hope that Yogi Bear isn't at the match then and turns to his little friend and says "BooBoo......"
No football club would ever endorse a ‘Grass the Racist’ campaign. Bad for business. Which makes it no more than lip service, regardless of honest intentions.
Without question. I'd also go so far as to say that anybody that wants to defend those that boo as "not racist" are also, in fact, racist.
What's funny about a player kneeling to show their defiance against racist abuse of players and more widely, how non white people are treated across society?
I support the players and staff having the option to take a knee. I think booing it is a clear demonstration of lack of respect and demonstrates a personal position of being opposed to the context. So if its to support equality, then a person booing demonstrates an opposing view. I guess the same applies if someone booed during the remembrance day activities. Now... onto the EFL statement. It isn't enough. Yet another season and yet another slogan. When is the EFL going to do something more that just promotional branding. I believe marketing is good and needed, but in 2021 i would have expected them to do more. Sponsoring education through clubs and fans, higher profile punishment's, better security activities in partnership (not just passing the buck) to clubs, engagement in footballing communities, rewards for progression etc etc
Why would anyone laugh? I understand why some players choose not to. I understand the view that it has the potential to turn into a empty gesture. I can't for the life in me understand why anyone would boo or laugh unless they are actually opposed to what the gesture represents.
Totally agree. So the next stage is - what are the stewards and officials of the clubs going to do when booing occurs. Just standing by and doing nothing isn't going to get of the racists
