With a distinct lack of quality on show throughout the season I presume most people just had to vote on effort, can't fault that with Mowatt to be fair.
I haven't seen any mention of voting for it this season. It's the first time I've missed in 40-odd years.
From earlier this month, mate. https://barnsleyfc.org.uk/threads/official-site-vote-player-of-the-season-2019-20.292814/
Was there anybody in the ground when they announced it? They usually do it when it's empty and the Chronicle photographer has to look for anybody in the stand as a backdrop to the player.
I would imagine even Mowatt himself would acknowledge that although he's generally been at a decent level throughout, there hasn't been enough games where he's taken it by the scruff of the neck and won the match for us, which he is capable of doing. He will have better seasons than this one. That's not to say this isn't deserved, it is, he's worked hard all season and been relatively consistent. I don't think any other player has shown any level of consistency. The only other contender for POTY would be Woodrow, for his goals, rather than his consistency. If a team only has one player that performs week in, week out, then it's going to be, as we've found out, a real struggle. It's what happens when fielding a team of kids. Mowatt and Woodrow are the oldest two players eligible for POTY. Mowatt has played more games than any other player. That's not a coincidence.
