I went to the ticket machine to renew my Metro Card for September. I put my MCard in the reader, selected my ticket then went to the payment. I inserted my Debit Card and it came up error transaction not processed you will not be charged for this please select another transaction or try again. I tried again it accepted payment this time and printed me a receipt. I checked my statement because it seemed strange and the money had been taken twice. I contacted Northern Rail and they told me that this would show up as an error and that the bank would make the money pending on one of the transactions. If it hasn't been debited back into my account in 3-5 working days send them a bank statement. I contacted the bank and they told me that my next statement isn't due on the 8th-9th of September and if it hasn't been refunded. This sounded pretty lax. Will the TVM/Northern Rail see that this is a double transaction and debit me back automatically? Has this happened to anyone else?
Cant you get an interim statement either online or from an ATM - I wouldnt be too trusting of anyone saying it will be debited back automatically
I've contacted the bank and they've said it's showing as being taken twice. I'll be contacting Northern Rail again shortly.
Happened to me in different situation. London forgot to initiate oyster card after payment. Wouldn’t work when I got to entrance. Topped card up again but showed showed 2 debits on my statement. But only 1 top up. Asked support adviser, he said it would automatically refund the 1st debit next working day without any issues of having to phone up eg. and it did.
Contacted bank and Northern Rail again and they've just told me the same. Bank also said they can't do anything whilst it is pending. It probably won't be taken twice but if it is they can claim it back for me without me sending personal details to Northern. Cheers
Just remember to check properly your next statement and make sure the automatic process doesnt forget
I suspect it's gone into a "pending state" which NR can't see yet, but the bank can't do anything either. I suspect that the 2nd amount will just disappear from your statements as if it never happened ... eventually.
