Regarding the award of building contracts apparently. When will these elected representatives ever learn, that you are highly unlikely ever to get away with anything deemed to be illegal.? Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson arrested in bribery probe https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-55192375
[QUOTE=When will these elected representatives ever learn, that you are highly unlikely ever to get away with anything deemed to be illegal.? Unless you're a Tory Cabinet Minister.
Nice to note that the due process of the law is being respected prior to anyone drawing conclusions as to guilt.
Suspension from the Labour Party is significant. Remember that was the first thing that happened before any trials began in the " Donnygate" affair. When they were finally undertaken sentences ranging from fines, community services to imprisonment were handed out, despite the majority claiming they were innocent.
Following his recent arrest Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson has announced he is to step down from his post.
Doesn't surprise me - lived round the corner from him. His wife still lives there but they split a while ago.Large house- all the family brand new flash cars. Always felt there was something not quite right
So it does seem that all parties allegedly have their share of crooks. Pure observation but just imagine if he had been a Tory mayor, this thread would be about 100 pages by now. Reponse has been fairly muted, but wrongdoing shouldn't be covered up should it? Should all be investigated regardless of political colours and if warranted, arrested and charged. Absolute abuse of power. I take it the tory ones that have not been arrested for similar claims, have either not been reported to the police, or the evidence doesn't stack up for the police to act.
Tbh I dont know much about him. Sounds like its being dealt with by the police, he's resigned. Have to wait and see what comes out.
I believe he's stepped aside to allow his deputy to take over until he knows what action the Police intend to take if in fact they take any. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...r-joe-anderson-to-step-aside-following-arrest
Recall when Donnygate first hit the headlines there were accusations of one Councillor having a Conservatory erected on the side of their house by a local firm. Cost circa £15-£20k. One elected representatives was found to have used prostitutes in exchange for securing Council properties. The conservatory firm claimed they had charged scrap value for the unit as it had been fitted elsewhere previously and the one using "ladies of the night" got a fine and a suspended sentence due to ill health, whilst others who had inflated their expense claims were given custodial sentences. The Labour Party came down very hard on Councillors who had been members of many years standing who were found guilty and expelled them. I was friendly with one Councillor. He admitted claiming for drinks and hospitality whilst in London for which he failed to produce receipts. The Police went back circa seven years and charged him with misappropriating around £2k of Council funds. Around 200 of his constituents submitted a petition praising his efforts in representing them and he paid back every penny of what was claimed that he owed. He lost his full time job as a Deputy Headmaster, he lost his wife to another man and after the trial after he was fined and given a suspended sentence, he had a heart attack and died a lonely broken man in 2014. All of that happened for the sake of two grand, proof that crime does not pay.
Wasn't covered up when Eric Illsley got sent down - would some random Tory mayor generate lots of posts - very much doubt it.
Massive Everton fan - be interesting to see if the new ground proposal for the docks is part of this investigation
