To Crystal Palace Football Club. They have kitted a lounge out at Selhurst Park to accommodate rough sleepers when outside temperature plunge below zero. The facility can accommodate up to ten people. As well as a bed for the night, those seeking refuge are given a hot meal, a breakfast and are also provided with washing facilities. Really can't compliment the Club enough. Well done Palace for what really is a caring and humane gesture of the greatest magnitude. https://news.sky.com/story/crystal-...ides-food-and-beds-to-rough-sleepers-11611441
Yes it's a lovely gesture read about it in this morning's paper, well done Crystal palace football club.
Brilliant work, I went to put something in the bin last night and came in and stood by the radiator for 5 mins to warm back up. The thought of anyone having to try and spend the night in those conditions is shocking. Our Goverment is spending all it's time bickering about our relationship with our neighbours and people are living on the street. We would all do well to care a little more about others. Well played Crystal Palace.
Agreed but temporarily housing homeless people in a football stadium isn't a long term solution (though it is very commendable). Homelessness is weird really isn't it. If somebody is hell bent on walking away and becoming homeless what can anyone do to stop them? The way I see it homeless people fall into a few categories Those who ran away and chose to live homeless The people who are basically horrible people and have been evicted for their behaviour The addicts who chose to spend all their money on drink or drugs instead of paying for a roof over their head The people who don't really have any real addiction but made bad life choices and couldn't budget properly so couldn't afford a roof. Those who have had an unexpected life changing event which led to losing their home, a death, divorce, fire etc. We can't start to solve the problem whilst lumping them all together and pretending it's one problem with one solution. Handing those who lost everything in a fire a few thousand pounds would have sorted their problems stopped them becoming homeless. Handing thousands to the person intent on disappearing will just create a rich homeless person for a few months. We need to come up with different solutions for different kinds of people and as bad as it sounds the only real way of stopping some from becoming homeless is to house them in detention centres where they have a roof over their head, 3 square meals a day and access to mental health services
It's not a problem I would even have the slightest idea how to solve. And I imagine like all life it's a mixture or some who have been unfortunate and some who have made poor choices. A solution where people are given the chance to help themselves is the way to go. I'm sure some things are already in place I admit I am totally ignorant of the situation.
