O/T Is now a good time to buy a car?

I just bought a nearly new van from Motorpoint. Was very impressed with their choice, prices and the whole service, including contactless collection. They only do vehicles under 3 years old and 25,000 miles. Picked up the exact same spec I was looking at new but 13 months old (so 23 months of manufacturer's warranty remaining) and under 11,000 miles saved me about £10,000. I'd definitely recommend checking them out.

 

I would definitely check out the Kia Sportage. I don't have any personal experience of this vehicle, but it is very highly rated by the motoring press and owners, especially for reliability. And you should get the balance of Kia's 7 year warranty if the vehicle has been serviced on schedule.

 

Personally wouldn't buy new because of depreciation. Wife picked up a Toyota Aygo
on a 2015 plate for a reasonable price from F. Cross Doncaster. One owner from new ,only
12,000 on the clock. It's in superb condition.

VW are launching a special deal in 20th if this month for new cars, not sure of all details but been told it’s interest free, good time to buy a Tiguan.
Just sold mine to buy a Merc great car though.

 

If you are looking for a new car then do your research on carwow/Drive the Deal etc and then try and knock your local dealer down to that price. If there's excess stock then you'll get a good deal, if it's built to order then you won't.

Best deals are on nearly new/demonstrator cars at the minute. Again check sites like carwow for stock.

 

Not picking out any particular cars and not sure it applies as much now with folk wanting a private registration plate. But a few weeks afore the new registration comes out was the best time to buy new in my experience. They are desperate to make sales and offer or willing take thousands off. As a few weeks later the demand for the new plate is at its peak. I just said here’s what I’ve got to spend take it or leave it. You stand a chance of getting told to go away but I was never desperate to change cars. Only for the price I set. not them.
You may get a better model or extras thrown in for nowt. To reach an agreement.

 

Don't buy new, it's chucking brass away. Unless you drive more miles than average don't be put off by high-ish mileage.
Look at reviews of the cars you fancy, what you want to pay, then decide what you're going for. Some of the Seats and Skodas are worth considering. Shop around on the net and go and look. Easy if you're not trading one in.
I'm going through exactly that process with my lad now. Off to Dagenham on Saturday to look at a high mileage beemer - apologies to the anti beemer brigade on here.

Bought an ex demo Audi Q5 last November, a little over 2000 miles on the clock, saved 1000's off list.
Would never buy new, let someone else take the depreciation hit.Take your time and you'll find a good un at a good price I'm sure.
Couple of folk at work have the Kia for towing caravans, all very happy with them.

 

I always buy from new, but depreciation hardly has any effect as I keep a car for many years. In 20 years I've had just 3 cars from new, one of which is now 4 years old and still with me. Each to their own though.

 

My missis would only have VWs, she's had 7, the last being a Tiguan. We changed it at Xmas for a Skoda Karoq (Skoda version of Tiguan). It has a VW engine and floor pan. It has more 'bells & whistles than equivalent Tiguan and it was nearly £6K cheaper than the VW. It's brilliant and she's over the moon with it.

 

We’ve literally just bought a Tiguan a couple of hours ago on a 4 year PCP, needed something bigger with a child on the way.

 

Picked up an old volvo last week - 55k on the clock and fsh. Absolutely mint. Got rid of my newer V60 as I don't do miles to justify a diesel. retro goodness.
