Is this illegal? We need a female sports coach to help run sports camps / after school clubs. We already have a male employee, and child protection policy dictates that we need a coach of either gender. Is it illegal to recruit as such? Check with the job centre Fired. It didn't used to be illegal but you had to meet certain criteria to get it approved. I queried this when the job centre were advertising a female only housekeeper role in Cornwall. I was advised that the role was a live in one in shared accommodation and one staff member was already in place which was female. Advert was approved. Considering your reasons you would probably be allowed to recruit gender specific.
