    For those interested in this, Guy Verhofstadt indicated on Radio 4 this morning that the idea is still very much under consideration, although he admitted it may not be easy to organise. The idea will not form part of the ongoing trade negotiations. I hope it comes to pass. I will be up for it, and I hope in time it demonstrates new enthusiasm for resumed membership, or at the very least, close alliance with the EU.

    As for Big Ben bongs, I'll leave that one for anyone who thinks it is remotely relevant or of interest. I couldn't care less.

    I’d be up for associate citizenship- no Big Ben for me - triumphalist nonsense - more like For whom the bell tolls!

    As for Big Ben and celebrations - not for me - in fact I will be out of the country in France - something I am quite happy about as at least I can pretnd its not happening for another week or so
